Penance As I left the hospital I popped to the shop, there I saw a newspaper headline stating that the nurse strike was stopping cancer treatment, it would seem that is demonstrably untrue. The RCN have been very clear that critical care would not be affected.
The media are gaslighting the workers and ignoring the bigger issue.
Was this the Torygraph by any chance?
The litany of articles by them against home working, especially against the civil service, really betray their affiliations. While Moggy was going around trying to help himself and his buddies with commercial property portfolios by trying to get civil servants back into offices, and by extension put pressure on the private sector to do the same, it wasn’t so widely reported that Moggy didn’t have a computer at his desk and had members of staff print out emails sent to him and put them in his intray, or that he had them type up his responses! How’s that for efficiency and productivity in the civil service.
The backlog of cases and delays are created by poor planning and management. Look at the time it takes to process cases for asylum seekers, it’s nothing to do with people working from home (who are actually more productive and more efficient compared to when they are working in the office), but rather than address the issues caused by their own government they point the finger at the workers and offer them an 8% pay cut in real terms. But they won’t stop spending millions on unnecessary office space because that would harm commercial property portfolios. Instead, they’ll get people to go into the office a couple of days a week, so they take their laptops in and attend all meets using microsoft teams (even when everybody in the meeting is in the same office!) and do all of their work on the laptop just as they would at home but have the added inconvenience of having to walk 5 minutes to get to the nearest toilet and pay for transportation.
The country might not have the money to properly pay its staff, and our economy might be ruined with exports and growth down, but at least the government has found a way to siphon off millions from the taxpayer to line their friend’s pockets with bogus contract and their donors and brexiteer bankers can have their bigger bonuses now they aren’t restricted by EU law.
