I registered interest and was sent a survey to complete. I looked at the questions and it was so skewed it was almost unbelievable. It was almost impossible to complete without giving 5 stars to something you have never seen, in every department.......so I binned it. Also, their use of English in the write up is decidedly odd!

Whilst I doubt it has a significant effect on the grinder's performance & function, it seems odd to do a grind analysis by a method with no available comparison, even odder that the % figures given don't match the curves in the chart.

This kind of unintelligible 'data' is very common in coffee crowd funding (Invergo brewer, ROK grinder). It's not very reassuring, but the people posting usually don't understand the concepts they are trying to convey, luckily for the manufacturers, their prospective customers don't know what they are looking at either. If the burrs work and the grinder is built to reasonable tolerances then it will work normally. ...unlike my Timemore Nano which is only effective as a paper weight.

'Patented Burrs' I don't see what could be so novel in burr design that they would spend 10k patenting it aha. What the heck is a 'sensory motor'? The text about the motor is such a silly thing to mention. The Size distribution part was like they were forced to stick it in to appeal to the prosumer market. I'm sure the engineering is top notch because the quality looks high, but their marketing and English department needs improvement for sure.

Any indications of price yet? Aside from looking very similar to the Fellow Ode, I'd guess the 064 will perform very similarly too. 064s burrs in contrast look like standard Mazzer/Italmill clones, although the stepped settings could be an issue for dialling in espresso (even though I'm sure there'll be a workaround eventually). However if you can swap in SSPs and it can handle dense beans at fine settings and slow RPMs, who knows it could be an interesting grinder. Issue with 078 is that currently you'd be tied into their burrs or maybe the Xeoleo ghost burrs so it's a shame they didn't bump the motor size up for the smaller model or go for a more standard burr size for this one.

I get it’s all marketing buzz and why everyone’s skeptical but isn’t this normal for Kickstarters? The trade off is usually that you get a better price on a product that has limited or no reviews.

It’s normal for companies to not encourage swapping burrs out but we know it’s theoretically possible at least if not a bit more of a faff than with other grinders. I mean BB tried to claim using any other burrs with the DF64 invalidates its warranty despite actually selling it with third-party burrs.

They could be a bit more transparent, miss aligning the burrs when swapping sounds like BS, there is probably other reason or they simply did not test enough to know. The hype and marketing seems so cheap and they seem very greedy in selling it. It seems like their marketing and sales teams do not understand the coffee community all that much.

I only try to ignore all that marketing bs because the product itself seem like it has potential. We have to wait and see.

The price is pretty much unprecedented for the features the sculptor offers on paper. Hopefully it will perform as suggested and if it does, it could be easily the most significant coffee product of the year to my mind given the number of people who have bought into it under the kickstarter.

So far the campaign had attracted 4,400 backers and generated AU2.8m (US1.7 and GBP1.4m) which can only be hailed as an outrageously successful launch. Yes yes, I know … they have yet to deliver but credit where it’s due, they have done an exceptional job of generating demand.

However the p100 page say1300Ws that the p100 reaches a peak of 1300w. Sorry then my bad - I must have overlooked it.

However that raises another question. The p100 Web page says it reaches a peak of 1300w. Do they meant the bldc motor actually hits 1300w or do they mean that it is equivalent to a 1300w AC motor? Because

we go by their 3 times comparison then it works out to a dc motor of about 450w.

If we r to compare the 400w bldc Motor in the sculptor 78s, it seems to compare favourably against the motors of the titan grinders.

Inspector adjustment thread pitch certainly looks like an issue for dialling in for espresso given how close to zero he was and how he mentions using faster rpm to slow down the shot.

FadedFrontiers I noticed that too. I don’t understand why you can move the zero point to give more adjustment. In my mind why isn’t the zero point actually zero! Are they worried about touching burrs?

Either way i’m still debating backing the 78s as I want a flat burr alongside my niche.

I’d wait for real world reviews, yes you may pay more but at least you won’t waste money if it’s not what you want.

Think the coffee world has gone quite nuts, even in the few years I’ve been in it I’ve seen so much change, and esp new products, every one being the next best thing…

What are they likely to cost normally when there in shops

Cuprajake Yes i agree everything seems to be the next best thing, same in most industries. Marketing and hype plays a big role.

For comparison the 078 is ~£412 on kickstarter, sigma coffee want £595 for it. Quite a big difference of £183 but that could change slight with exchange rates but a rough idea.
