DavecUK That’s exactly the sort of thing.
Thats exactly what i’ve got. it can be a bit difficult to grip if you have small paws like me though.

Pompeyexile Are these comfortable to hold? I am looking at getting the smaller one
I’ve had various milk jugs, but I honestly don’t think one helps you pour better than the other. I have the small Motta and it’s lovely, well made solid feeling thing, as befits the price. I’ve never considered comfort as such. I guess real expert pourers like a very sharp spout perhaps, for intricate designs, but I’d say just getting the right size for your largest cup is the important thing. I have a larger one for doing 2 cups but I never get as good results steaming for 2, whether I steam and decant into the smaller jug, or pour from the larger one. You get used to a jug.
I definitely find latte art easier with a pointy spout. I think steaming is easier to learn with the more pot-bellied jugs.
The more rounded Motta spouts are supposedly more forgiving, especially for hearts and tulips, although less precise (if you reach that level).
I don’t think the Motta jug is more or less comfortable to hold than other pitchers.
PortafilterProcrastinator Yes, I find them quite comfortable.
I have a Motta, but it’s a little large for one drink, so I use a smaller milk jug…which is actually slightly too small. Perhaps I should dig the Motta out and try again.
FWIW, i have found that a 35cl jug (filled with at least 15cl of milk) is best for a 25cl cup. I also have a larger (60cl) jug which i sometimes use if i’m making more than one cappucco. However, i find i get a better result steaming twice in the smaller jug…but that is more faff of course!
Exactly the same here. I prefer to steam 200ml in a 350 rather than 2 cups worth in my bigger jug. I have been told on a barista course that you can steam all the milk then decant into the smaller one to pour but in a home setting I can’t see that that’s any better than steaming each individually.
Pompeyexile I use the motta pitcher too. I really struggled with latte art until I came across Lance Hendricks video on this forum a few days ago. I’ve gone from a shapeless mess to this in 1 week. Still not the best, but I’m proud of it.😀
That’s much better than I can do!
I’m sure of all the latte art tutorials I’ve seen on YouTube, none of them use a fancy jug. Like Lance Hendrick, they mostly seem a fairy plain shape.
Emc2 Well, I’ve just watched the video and then immediately went and made some of the wettest glossiest paint looking milk I have ever made….fantastic!
But as for the latte art…think Jackson Pollock as opposed to Turner, Caravaggio, Raphael or Constable.
Pompeyexile I found Lance Hendricks videos on latte art very helpful. I’d suggest you watch them.
Has anyone used the Decent jug?
Also what are views on thermometer in the jug, stick on label outside or just using hand?
I’ve never tried to steam.
I was in the same boat as you and went with this one. Works great and handy having the thermometer to show how quickly the milk warms on the Minima.

Another vote for the Motta 35, feels solid and pours well.
I’m looking to pick up the 350ml version of these the next time I’m in Cambs:

They look very similar to the Motta jugs. Not expecting the same quality, but I’m sure the success of my latte art isn’t that finely balanced!
