Vostok - what's in a name?

I remember a lot of discussion about the name Vostock as being a very bad choice especially in light of the war that’s going on in Ukraine.

Interestingly today 2 Ukrainian girls came on the stand looking at the Vostok specifically for distribution into cafes in a certain area of Ukraine. They mentioned that one of the concerns was energy consumption because they run off generators (the war issues) and of course the Vostok suits that ideally, by having separate brew and steam boilers but it can also be purchased in a low energy configuration.

I thought it funny that some people can become upset on behalf of others, when those others don’t give it a second thought. The name was never mentioned as an issue and they didn’t ask for it to be debadged either.

Just thought it was interesting and gives a different perspective.

If we hire a marketing guru / consultant to sell them, then the name may be relevant, especially away from the home country. Generally, they would expect the name to be catchy and simple. Considering it’s a niche market, the features and the build quality are important than the name. Personally, I wouldn’t care.

LMSC well one things for sure, if you wanted to ‘capture’ the Ukrainian market you certainly wouldn’t name it an “ACS Putin” 😁

Amberale it is what it is in Ukraine and they also joke about it to stay sane. They know the problem is a created narrative by Putin designed to turn brothers and sister against each other. Unfortunately these created narratives are all to common where people have something of value to gain or lose. Then people get involved in a narrative created by the few, and end up suffering the consequences.

I have seen this all too often over the years when people have something to lose/gain and usually the truth takes a back seat.

I’m not usually sensitive to a well meaning jibe but I’m just thinking after the hoo-hah of the last few days it might be best to keep the politically charged jest to a minimum.

I agree Dave, however, as I sit in the relatively safe southern edge of Australia I probably should keep my somewhat dubious humour to myself.
I was only referring to my own extension of the theme.
