That looks good! I was talking to a friend yesterday about something similar - I haven't seen this before, mind - Where for a compact version of the Nurri or the V Evo, you could have one boiler holding water under pressure for steam purposes. Then a heat exchanger would fill the group, but would also mix cold water with it. As the group is heated and with a sensor in it, the user could see the temperature of the water inside the piston in real time. Once it reaches the set temperature and it's stable, the user can simply release the lever and pull the shot -this would then make the brew boiler redundant. I'm no engineer, so I don't even know if that's even a possibility. But it would be a really neat machine. I'd be all over it.

As an accountant, I applaud their effort to make their software compatible with all the mainstream tablets and thereby avoid the not insignificant cost of providing a dedicated tablet and so keeping the overall price lower. I like it a lot; but not having a boiler, it is not able to do steam, which could be a downer for those liking milky drinks?

Some buy separate milk heater/frothers but it's not ideal. PS different makes/models of tablets can be used with the Decent too.

Not trying to be a smart xxrse, it's just that the Meticulous wouldn't really bring anything extra to the bench. It really does look terrific and if I didn't have the Decent it would be seriously tempting. All of which is to say that I've thought about it more since my original post and I won't be backing it. Having had a lot of machines and grinders come and go, I'm going to settle down for a while, I hope. (Other than a couple on pre-order being the Argos and x-Bloom 😀 )

MattH This sounds like the way cars have gone - all electronics and you cannot fix anything unless a pc is plugged in….

With espresso machines we currently have a world of extremes…at one end machines with little to no technology that don’t work very well and are dinosaurs, to machine bursting with technology that we don’t know for sure work well. One is repairable, but not great, the other is difficult to repair and we don’t know if it’s great.

The best machines IMO are something in between, where he technology brings the important things to the table, but is not trying to solve the problems that good quality hardware can solve better.

Very professional and comprehensive Kickstarter proposal with good videos.

Difficult to say how well it works in practice, but they have certainly put a lot of thought into its design.

Quite expensive but can understand why. In UK unfortunately, although they pay import duty in the price, it is $16 shipping and then HMRC VAT @ 20% on total cost inc shipping to pay on receipt.

Yesterday a demo took place at a Cafe in the US, I’ll copy here a post of someone who visited the place:

“enjoyed the demo at Scorpio today. You could get your hands on the machine and pull a shot. It feels solid and easy to use. So pleasantly quiet. I got to input a profile on the tablet as well. I moved a few nodes to make a declining pressure shot which was simple to do. The shot was of an admittedly bright coffee, and although I had made changes (lowering the start and end pressure) without tweaking the grind, it was still tasty enough to confirm that I’d be happy with the results of using this machine.

I imagine they will be tweaking the software based on these demos for anything that comes up, but so far the interface seems well done and likable.

over 40 minutes to finally pull an ugly looking espresso shot, which tasted fantastic of course. Rather than trying to push everything under the sun it would have been better to concentrate on the Meticulous with known grinders, or the grinders with a known machine.

41 minutes of my life I won’t get back!
