DavecUK Which is reversed, would be considered sexist I think, perhaps I’m wrong? Hence it’s best not to even get into those discussion, except perhaps between friends at home.
e.g. if a man said the keenness about xyz seems to be a female thing
True. Except men of my age (I’m in my late 60’s) often seem to be keener about some interest areas than women of my age, and visa versa. I would suspect that this applies to other age brackets as well. There are however many many exceptions to the preceding. Its not sexist; its just human nature.
I do believe that human interaction has unduly shifted towards excessive politically correct behavior, to the extent that people cannot always interact in an honest and sincere (but always kind and considerate) way, for fear of being labeled discriminatory. Yet surface political correctness and true (actual demonstrated) respect, consideration and kindness to others (of any and all walks of life, incomes, races or sexual orientations) are two very different things. I have seen (over the past years) much more of the aforementioned political correctness and not enough of the latter kind, considerate, respectful and fair behavior. The “we’re in this together” attitude that I saw at the beginning of the pandemic has melted away, and we are back to “we’re in this for ourselves”. Sad 😞.
In any event, as my wife periodically reminds me (to keep me grounded): “its only coffee”. I reply that we each have our hobbies and passions, but she has a point.
Anyway, moving on to other coffee things, my 2nd Niche Zero (well but not over used, and donated to me by a kind soul, so I still have hope for the world 🥰) just arrived today. I will use it at my cottage. It is about 3 years old and has had about 30 kg of coffee run through it. It’s scratched here or there (due to RV cupboard items bumping into it), but otherwise is in good physical shape. It has never been cleaned, so I am curious to see what I will find inside when I open it up. 🤢 The kind gentleman who gave it to me indicated that it still runs well (no charge in motor or grinding sound, or in coffee body or taste). I turned it on and it sounds OK.
I will remove the burr cone and clean it up (ie complete a standard burr clean. ***Should I do anything else? Lubricate? Where? ***I may take some photos and post them, for comment and suggestions.
Thanks all. This is still indeed (with DavecUK encouragement) the world’s friendliest forum.
PS I see that one woman did respond to this poll. If she feels comfortable in revealing her monicker, I will be interested in hearing her perspectives on coffee and the world through her future posts, as I truly believe that women have sometimes different and very valid perspectives on things. Up to her.
