My wife is curious about the proportion of men to women on this Forum and has ventured a guess. I will share that with you after this poll, once she finishes with her “I told you so’s”. Mind you, she does not read of or pay attention to the famous woman baristas, cafe owners and roasters in coffee; it’s not her passion. I had included LGBTQ in the poll, to be respectful of diversity. The poll is anonymous (no names shown).

It will be very small if any This forum is very new, to find it you normally get redirect to it from cfuk. I would say of the three coffee forums there less than 5% female manners across them.

To add this seems to hold true of most the forums I visit, Hockey, aquarium, photography,av,headphones I bet if you did the pole on mumsnet, it would be reversed haha

I've not participated because the gender or sexual orientation of our members is unimportant to me. As far as i am concerned the forum is gender neutral. This holds true for age, disabilities, country, race, religion, etc.. All are welcome…

I countered that there are many women who are keen about coffee and I got that look again. Hence the poll. Being honest, I suppose we men do tend to get abit well … technical (my wife uses the word geeky)… about some things.

And it goes without saying that women do have different perspectives on many things (I suspect including coffee) than men. And visa versa. Life is not gender neutral. I enjoy hearing a woman’s point of view.

I dared not utter a word and slipped out of the store.

Interesting poll. Some sports/pastimes attract different genders it seems. Tennis seems to be fairly balanced. Yoga classes more women. Go figure.

Which is reversed, would be considered sexist I think, perhaps I'm wrong? Hence it's best not to even get into those discussion, except perhaps between friends at home. e.g. if a man said the keenness about xyz seems to be a female thing.

Rob1 Mumsnet gets around 20,000 posts every day! My takeaway from that is the women are quite happy to engage in fora that interest them. If Mumsnet is not the biggest most active UK forum, it is certainly in the top ten.

We need to remember that going into the tiniest detail of puck prep and water preparation is quite niche - only a minority of the millions of people who enjoy coffee are interested in discussing these intricacies. Even the desire to own a manual espresso machine is niche - Hoffman is always reminding his audience that he doesn’t have a machine at home, warning that it will become a hobby.

People often joke that boys never really grow up - men just have more expensive toys. I know that applies to me and I suspect others on here.

Gagaryn 20,000 sounds impressive but mumsnet isn’t even a specialised board - there are quite a lot of mothers in the world. It should be attracting many more than 20k per day.

Comparing it to boards that are much more niche it pales in comparison. These are figures from around 2016/17 just grabbed from a quick search. Gamespot, IGN boards, XDA developers. The internet is a busy place.
