I have recently been made aware of the Kickstarter campaign from Timemore, which will launch soon. What they promise vs the price looks almost too good, and I wanted to ask if people had any experience with their products, especially the 078? I am looking for a grinder upgrade from my sage to use with my Lelit Elizabeth, and upcoming 064s looks interesting to me.

The main benefits for me were price (1/3 of the Acaia Lunar), accuracy and speed (ie no lag). I also like the form factor (sleek, thin). But the adjustment buttons are poorly designed. And Espresso Mode can stall, particularly in slow running shots. It arbitrarily decides that the shot has ended, when it didn’t. Auto-tar also has issues. The standard mode works well. Just be sure to tar every time. So, it handles its basic functions well, but not the additional features. The above may well apply to other Timemore products.

If you are referring to the scale automatically starting the timer when it detects the weight change, I find this pointless because the only time I'm interested in, if any, is from when the pump is activated, not when the coffee hits the cup, so I don't use it (I did try it once when I got my scale and it worked just fine). I'm happy with the scales because they are accurate, fast enough for me, build quality is excellent for the price (in my opinion) buttons always work first time, device is solid, drips are no problem, it's all flat with no nukes and crannies to catch dirt and grime so very easy to keep clean, battery lasts a long time and is rechargeable via USB-C. Just that Timemore could have done some things better. Especially the buttons, which are unduly sensitive and badly placed. And the Espresso mode, which sometimes fails to start weighing or stops weighing inadvertently. The standard mode works just fine. And it would be great if their scale paired with a logging app, as their other scales apparently do. I guess you can’t have everything. Its still a great value. Just not sure I would buy a grinder from them. I guess it boils down to price and (for me): 1) burr quality and alignment, 2) overall build quality, and 3) ease of use. I initially bought a Eureka Mignon Specialita and soon after sold it, to buy my NZ. It was worth every penny I put into the NZ. I now have two (one for City and one for the Cottage). It was a stretch to buy my initial NZ and Lelit E (my wife complained about it for a while), but I am absolutely happy it and glad that I stretched abit. Next up is to replace my cottage Breville DuoPro, with a Lelit E. Or?

@"JHCCoffee"#p39133 yeah I'm surprised they didn't add on a cheap Bluetooth chip for the price that the nanos are selling for, feel like they're missing a trick there. A small change to properly compete with Acaia, Felicita etc. and the higher end coffee scales, plus there's so many apps out there you wouldn't even need to develop your own at this point.

Hopefully someone has an opinion on this but i'm trying to figure out if I should get the timemore 078s…currently have a stock DF64…watched Kyle Roswell's video and was conflicted when he said he thought the 064s was better for milk drinks which I primarily make, but thought the 78 had to be better overall…now wondering if getting SSP burrs for my DF64 would be better than getting the 078s?

You can always sell 078s if you dont like it for the same price and buy SSP's for your df64 later on. I still think it is a bargain for £400.

I’ve seen vids of the MK1 zerno and I’d call it a work in progress, app though the owner is changing stuff all the time which is good, but the stuff I’ve seen downs make it perfect by any means

In the UK the df83 is £700.

I think so far niche have shot themselves in the foot with 90% of the influencers they have provided grinders too, and take the ‘ive paid with this with my own money’ with a pinch of salt….

That’s because its not been paid for with their own money but by Patreon subs or the many many affiliate links. I think people forget these influencers are in business to make money. They don’t really care about the consumer, in the same way celebrities don’t care about the people who put them there.

This whole influencer thing sprung up around 3 or 4 years ago and people take their word as gospel, without questioning it. Even this, watching it….I am amazed!

Cuprajake Apparently shipment starts Around August/September and takes about 30-45 days to arrive. That would have been quite disappointing if I didn’t have a grinder and waiting for this to arrive.

I know it’s Kickstarter concept but come on, shipment supposed to be in late July and now around August/September. I better forget about it and be happy with my niche for few months more :)

Don’t forget the Niche Zero got significantly delayed back in 2018 too. I believe there was a problem with the cups. So best to just not worry about it and, when it turns up, it turns up.

MediumRoastSteam You have a better memory than me matey! The only delay I can remember, was in between Niche thinking the product was ready for launch on Kickstarter, and Dave becoming involved. I might of course, be totally wrong!

There was a delay of a couple of months as there was a problem with the cup production and Martin wanted to get everything right.

dfk41 - I don’t really want to argue about a delay. As mentioned here, delays are just a fact of life, it happens, what can we do. Delay for a grinder on a KS platform…. First world problems for sure.

Why should a KS launch have exemption for launching on time? Timemore could easily put this to bed with a clear brief

dfk41 - It’s ok. I’m just saying that delays are common and can happen. As long as expectations are managed, specially with regards to new products, all is good. It’s best to have something delivered that works well rather than receiving a prototype.

They couldn’t cope with demand imo. They weren’t expecting campaign to be that successful, plus some certification problems along the way for some countries.
