I’ve got a hotpoint condenser dryer. It’s a very basic model - single dial timer - think it cost £120. Other than two replacement belts it hasn’t missed a beat in the 20+ years I’ve had it.
White Goods - Tumble dryer
If there’s any warmth we use a rotary clothesl line in the garden, when there isn’t they go on a clothes horse in the hall by a radiator, always dry in the morning.
Careful of heat pump T/Ds if you don’t have a well insulated warm home.
It’s not a problem, my home is between 9 and 14C, often I dry at night when it’s at the lower end. The utility room actually warms up slightly when it’s in use as well, because of course the system is doing work and some of that warms the environment. really think they are great, until mine breaks down of course…. 🤔
I don’t dry elsewhere in the house because of damp, don’t want to risk it.
A heat-pump condenser tumble dryer is by far the most economical energy-wise. We bought the full range Miele (to replace the full set Zanussi), extractor, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, fridge and this tumble dryer:
The quality and the economy are times better that our previous Zanussi one.
The washing machine had the motherboard replaced under warranty but since then it has been fine. Our electricity bill as well as water consumption dropped significantly.
It was an expensive investment and it took deliberation as Miele is not what it used to be 15 years ago with 10 year warranty. The claim is they have been stress tested for 20 years continuous use.
Miele have quite serious discounts around Black Friday and Christmas, something I missed.
Good luck with your next purchase.

@LMSC I encountered the same problem even on my laptop. Neither Reply nor Like buttons are available.

There is a bugget at the moment, reply, quote and like are not working…plus some other things. I don’t know what the problem is. I have reported it though….I think it’s related to an upgrade done today.
Thx for the update Dave. I thought something is wrong my iPhone! 😊
DavecUK It is back, everything works 😀

It is, but sadly, no everything doesn’t work as it should…fortunately most of the things are invisible to you guys, but some of my levers no longer work as they should. Hopefully will be fixed in the fullness of time.
DavecUK I hope it will get sorted out.

DavecUK That’s interesting, we were warned of them by more than one outlet.
Oh well, maybe next time.
PortafilterProcrastinator If you had one in a garage or shed, then yes at about6C it won’t get got enough. In a homes utility room though, even if the house was unheated, that local environment would soon be warm enough for it to work.
I love mine…really good and with no fire worries or cloths damage…minimal creasing too.
The current TD runs in the utility. It’s well lit and has a range of 10C - 13C in winter. The room is really warm when the dryer runs. The only challenge is a lack of ventilation as there are no windows. We open the utility door slightly to let some fresh air in when the TD runs.

LMSC A neighbour made a hole in the wall and installed extractor fan and solved the problem.

John_Yossarian Thanks. That’s an option we are look into, given the lack of space for a window.
LMSC If you are going to move to heat pump tumble drier making a hole in the wall might not be necessary as we have got ours in the kitchen and never felt the need to ventilate the room.

John_Yossarian That’s very useful. My family isn’t keen on breaking the wall for extractor fan. They think it will make the utility colder in winter and are ok to slightly open the utility door when the machine run.
I am waiting for parts to see if we can give it some life. Otherwise, heat pump is what we will get.
Will keep you posted. Thanks mate.

My old tumble drier non condenser still works, but I would never go back to a non heat pump drier…
