- At 5m 28s, he mentions that the flat 83mm burrs take more power than the conical burr in the zero which is factually untrue and something he could have tested. The zero actually draws more power than the Duo, so “if” it’s the same motor, it’s going to have a longer life than the zero motor. Pity he didn’t do the work to measure the actual wattage consumed of the 2 grinders, as he would have seen this.
- The motor is based on, but not the same as the Zero (so that wasn’t a correct statement)
- The motor is not a 130W motor, so that statement is also factually incorrect…the grinder has a 130W consumption rating because when grinding coffee, that’s about the most they could make it consume. If you grind green coffee in it, you will see it produce a lot more power.
- Flow control disk not necessary in the Duo
- Slow rotational burr speeds in flats do make a difference
- The fellow Ode grinding green coffee sounded very, unhappy. He didn’t really expand the point enough about grinders stalling which in my opinion isn’t super acceptable and you absolutely don’t have to hot start the Duo.
These and other errors mean that the trust in what other “facts” are presented is always something to bear in mind. For me it wasn’t a bad review, but quite a few little things in there (not about the duo specifically) that might not actually be right in general, but stated with a great deal of confidence as “facts”. Overall though, one of his better reviews, even though it missed some stuff. And he didn’t overtly neg it as some other “influencers” did.
I personally have never seen the sort of static he is experiencing, even with very chaffy beans, except when it’s a filter grind, which definitely produces more chaff from a chaffy coffee (as per the inside of the grind cup he showed)?
P.S. Was the green coffee he ground in the ode an espresso grind….I’m not sure it was, but he never said the grind or the weight ground!
