My manual wdt tool is also partially based on the sworkdesign distribution of needles as well and I like it’s results too.

On the auto comb, did barista hustle say if they r planning to make it for different portsfiltet sizes like the LSM 54.4mm size? Or will their normal auto comb also fit smaller portafilters like the LSM size? I asked them that question through their website but received no reply.

2 years late to the party and only used the Umikot, 3d printed over the weekend, this morning for 3 coffees, so maybe it’s placebo, but I noticed that my shots were consistent to .1g. Previously I got quite a wide variation of output for same coffee, same grind size, same manual WDT pattern (or so I thought) etc. Will test some more over the next period and draw my conclusions.

Mine is still on the shelf at Weber HQ but i also continue to get consistent shots.

Honestly… to be clear: I have the 3D printed version a friend printed for me.

With my machine (Elizabeth) and my grinder (Niche Duo, and beforehand a Zero) if I just grind into the PF, or into the cup and flip over, tap, tamp and pull I get visible channeling using a bottomless PF. WDT fixed the problem.

But using the tool is more consistent, takes less time and gives me a nicer looking, mess free shot all the time.

If you don’t need WDT, then there’s no point using it. Why add another step to your routine?

@MediumRoastSteam Can I ask what accessories you use on your Niche Duo to grind into the portafilter please?

Chriss29 I use a standard PF funnel and just hold it underneath the spout. No frills.

At the moment i only wdt if the coffee is heaped one side of the portafilter and the gentle knock on the table has not leveled it out.

Otherwise its grind direct - small tap and then tamp and away 👍
