Ernie1 I’ve had the LM about 6 months now and it’s recommended a screen change. However, this looks good as new to me… It’s not a big cost but feels a shame to buy one if it’s not necessary? Any reason I should be changing regardless?
MediumRoastSteam Ernie1 - in a home environment, I can’t see why you’d need to change a shower screen due to wear and tear, ever, unless it gets damaged when you take it out for cleaning. 😉 Edit: these people never heard of cleaning before?
DavecUK Ernie1 Nothing wrong with that screen and if you take it out and clean it weekly, it should last many years.
MattH Where did it recommend it ? Was it in the manual ? I suspect if the Mini was in a commercial setting then it may make more sense ?
Ernie1 MattH Says gasket screen and screw here. I mean, it’s £20 for the lot if I do replace it but yeah just seems a shame to bin it if all is well.
MediumRoastSteam Ernie1 - Also, I don’t know how the gasket on an LMLM is seated/fitted. But I wouldn’t go about using a gasket picker if that damages the gasket. Unless of course the gasket is so badly baked that there’s no other way.
Ernie1 MediumRoastSteam Thanks. The screen/screw get removed weekly to clean and a monthly soak in Puly Caff. I might swap the gasket as I’ve been meaning to put a silicone one in and it’s only a fiver.
Ernie1 MediumRoastSteam Yeah it would be very tricky to remove without a pick. LM even sell one to get it out.
tompoland I pop mine in a small ultrasonic cleaning machine (cheapo from ali express) and they come up like new. My guess is that whoever wrote the manual mistakenly used the word “change” instead of “clean”.
Ernie1 tompoland I’ve got a suspicion it might be commercial instructions. I think the LM is technically graded commercial in some countries. Pretty sure the manual that came with mine also recommends doing a Puly Caff backflush daily which seems slightly overkill for two coffees a day 😂
