IMHO and FWIW etc:
regarding the difference between the Speciilita and a DF64V … the difference will depend on which burr set you have in the V. And that’s the beauty of the DF series in general: the ability to swap burrs easily and quickly. A Gorilla Gear burr will give you a completely different espresso to say a SSP (or any type).
For me at least, the espresso is significantly more enjoyable from the V but I mostly drink medium/light espresso. If I was drinking darker than medium or adding milk then I would be happy with either. So a lot depends on what you drink and the style of esresspo you prefer. Really, that, and workflow preferences, is the context for which grinder will be better for you.
In my testing, the size of the burr does not greatly effect the in-cup experience, that’s more about the burr geometry/cut.
Regarding the stalling issues in the V: most complaints have come from owners of early 110v versons but with mine (serial number 20) which is a 220v version, if I want to grind at 600rpm with say super light beans, I simply hot start it (as per the manual) and slowly feed the beans. It won’t stall (other than for half a second one time only on mine).
In regard to the Duo, based on what DaveC has posted, it looks like it will accomodate Mazzer burrs (or which there are at least 5 in the 151 series that will fit) and the SSPs (3x). So that also gives you a lot of choice too, if you want to play.
The V is a good grinder. Based on the Niche Zeroes that I have and reports on this forum about the Duo, the Niches are at a different level when it comes to engineering and design. But that doesn’t make the V a bad grinder, not by a long shot. Niche have really set the bar high for single dose home grinders. Bang for bucks, they are hard to beat.
At the 64mm level, I’d take the DF64V over the Niche Zero, because overall I prefer the espresso from a flat burr and the swapability is crazy good.
At the 83mm level, I’d choose the Niche Duo over the DF83 because the design will be better sorted and the engineering at a completely different level.
