Just noticed one of these self service points near me. Claims to be 3.5p a litre is this a pretty cheap way of getting distilled water once you remineralise it I guess this must be way cheaper than zero water jugs etc (or maybe I’m misunderstanding and it’s a slightly different thing). At 3.5p per litre **it's unbeatable value if it's nearby.** My nearest one is a 16 mile round trip…so a little far. definitely will preserve the machine if used with a bit os sodium bicarb.

Most likely it goes through a filtration process, similar to RO.

I don’t fancy being the Guinea Pig but I do have one of these places 5 mins away. If someone gives it a go I’d love to know how it goes. Seems like a great price. With the use cases mentioned on the site I’m guessing you need to get a lot per go.

I wonder how it's dispensed, I can imagine most customers probably wouldn't need to worry about keeping the tap/hose clean enough for human consumption

I think if it's been through an espresso machines boilers, it will be safe enough to drink.

I would be inclined to flush a bit out of the hose first and tip a bit over the spout before filling a container though.

@"TheDamnedCoda"#p45769 I use Spotless Water and it's just like using a petrol station just turn up and pay using bank card, don't bother with the key fob. I've used it with Third Wave Water sachets and honestly I couldn't taste a difference to my tap water.

@"Dusk"#p45794 I don't think there's a minimum, although I've never done less than 5L. It's like a petrol pump, just turn up and swipe your card, lift the nozzle and fill your container.

See earlier in the thread, they do mention coffee on their website but mention it needs minerals adding. As Dave said, it’s getting heated enough in a boiler to not worry too much about other things.

I’m just looking for a slightly greener solution to bottled water that doesn’t cost too much or take up too much space.

Dusk how hard is very hard. I have London Thames water and the zero lasts a long time.

Based on how often zero recommended replacing the filters for my hardness of water, it would work out more expensive than bottled water(Anglian water). The filters also create waste and I don’t know if they can be recycled so it doesn’t solve anything for me. Hence being interested in the spotless water.

RO will remove most bacteria and micro organisms but deionization doesn’t remove any.

Dusk , I used to use 5l a week of Lockhills water, which is £1.50 ish vs a zero filter at £15.
However even with London water I’m only now buying another 2 pack, 8 months after my last.
At 4 months each is definitely cheaper than buying bottles, nor to mention the convenience of not having to go out to buy water and not worrying about costs when descaling etc.
thankfully my local recycling centre recycles filters but even without, I still think it’s less plastic than 4 months of 5l bottles.
Spotless is interesting too, but don’t disregard zero filters (unless your stats are crazily high)

Do you test the water out of your Zero jug to see when the filter needs replacing or does the jug measure? My calculations were based on their website which says I might only get 30 litres out of a filter. I’m only using maybe 2 litres a week at the moment so the purchase of bottled water isn’t an issue and I can just store it out of the way in my garage.

Dusk yes I test every few weeks and replace when it gets to 5-8 tds.
My tap water is around 270.

The water report for my postcode says 300ppm calcium carbonate and 120ppm calcium, I’m not sure how that translates to overall TDS but I assume it’s a lot!
