If you have some sort of coffee travel kit, I invite you to share what you use. If you don't think the faff of a travel kit is worth it, more power to you but you're invited not to clog the thread with that. The idea is to catch ideas from those who have a travel kit. If you can post a pic, so much the better. But if not a simple description of your kit will suffice. Thanks to @"wilburpan"#672 whose review inspired me to try the 9Barista, mine consists of that ingenius device and a Lagom Mini. I'm considering replacing the latter with the Varia VS3 with the Hypernova burrs because even though it's larger and heavier, I enjoy the espresso significantly more. I used to take a C40, V60 and papers and buy coffee from a roaster local to wherever I was traveling. However after discovering you can get a plastic V60, and 40 papers for like £10, I’ve taken to ordering one of those to the location I’m travelling to, and just buying from a nearby roaster and asking them to grind for v60. It’s obviously not quite as fresh but negates actually carrying anything and that’s especially valuable if traveling by motorbike. This works especially well if I’m staying with friends or family who usually drink instant, I leave the new V60 with them and they get a coffee upgrade.

I also go for the v60 route. Plastic v60, MBK aergrind and a few papers. Just used it this morning as we're away camping.

@"Ernie1"#p45870 What do you do with the v60 at the end of the holiday? I've got a MBK F47 and am currently deciding on what to use for brewing. Aeropress likely to win at the moment.

OXO pour over cone, Feldgrind, My Weigh Triton XL Scales. Bloom with twice the dose weight from your hotel room kettle, drizzle this over the coffee bed via the Oxo water tank, to fully wet the grinds, add the rest of the water quickly at 1;00. If a compact kettle, with a small minimum brew capacity, pre weigh your brew water.

Nothing for me. This is when I check out the local shops.

Depends, Aeropress and Kingrinder if I am riding or motelling. Just fresh roasted beans if I am visiting.

Bad coffee, whatever everyone else is having. I see it as an opportunity to reset and appreciate more what I have at home. First one on return is often the most amazing coffee.

I'm away next week, I just don't drink Coffee, I'll wait till I come back Unless I see a nice cafe, but I've never done that yet. I normally come back, realise I don't really need coffee and contemplate selling it all 🤣

My staresso plus arrived today, with two naked baskets included. I am very impressed with the quality of coffee extracted. I’ve had 2, didn’t dial anything in with either. I used the same grinder setting I have been for the Vesuvius which was probably a bit fine but the coffee is lovely and smooth from the staresso. More faffing around than the aeropress with preheating parts of it etc. but very happy with the purchase

Talking of travel kits a member called prezez was selling his on here the other day and I saw his kit was kept in an aluminium flight/camera type case with foam cutouts to keep everything safe and snug, which I thought was a great idea and have asked Santa for one just like it. So, for me my Bella Barista USB grinder with brush, Brewista Smart Scales, V60 (01 or 02) some filter papers and some jars for my beans. Not sure I would bother with cups as prezez did, but obviously depending on what you take away when travelling can depend on what size used, it doesn’t have to be the size prezez used as there are smaller versions out there.

Just out of interest, how do any others on here transport their travel kit?

Pompeyexile I’ve built a few of the briefcase style travel bags. The easiest ones were from AliExpress. Hard plastic shell with foam inserts already in place. The easiest way is the get the type where the foam is partially pre-cut into cubes so you just pull out the ones that you don’t want. No cutting required. Today my 53 mm tamper has arrived and I immediately tested the Staresso, properly this time. Non-pressurised basket with 18.7 g coffee.
It exceeded my expectations. Although I do not have the 007 gear to put it in and take it with me, I look forward to our trip in December to Dublin. Very happy with my purchase.

John_Yossarian ah cool,I mis-read! I’ve only played around with it the last two weekends and I really am impressed. I’ve been making americanos but even though I preheat as many parts of it as possible I do end up having to heat in the microwave for 15secs, not sure how that’ll work without a microwave! There a lots of great places to get coffee in Dublin these days but I haven’t bought one out in a long time coz of my involvement here and making great coffee at home!!

JahLaza I took a bit of a gamble with this case and got it locally in tkmaxx. It’s a hard shell lunch box. I then bought some shadow foam and cut it to size so it fits snugly inside following by tracing the accessories. It turned out perfect fit for everything I needed.

I can find this particular case online but will post a link if I can find it.

After a four night break I have arrived at this assembly as my travelling kit. It all packs into the little bag which I plan to take in my cabin bag when flying, I try to avoid taking a hold case. I’ll take the Aerspeed when travelling light and the Solo grinder, which doesn’t fit in the bag, for car travelling or to use in the caravan, the battery operated grinding is a real boon. The spare basket (found in my box of bits, I think it’s from a Pavoni) is blanked off, so that I can fill the Staresso with hot water to preheat while loading the main basket with coffee.

In an attempt to reduce the volume and weight of my travelling kit I made an Aluminium tamper base and turned down the handle so that the assembly now fits into the basket when stored. The Aluminium tamper weighs 100g, the stainless one weighs 235g.

Norvin that’s great innovation,nice one. Especially the blank basket. Over the hols it was taking me a bit of time and faff heating the bits and pieces and all appeared excessive to the onlookers!!

Great idea and work! I just received my Staresso Plus and their tamper. I didn’t expect their tamper to weigh that much! Unfortunately I do not have access to a lathe or other equipment (or have the skills) necessary to make your well designed tamper. Oh well. 🥲

But if you would be comfortable in sharing sufficient dimensions for me to have it made, or if you 3D printed it, sharing the 3D printing files, then that would help. You can email me if you wish.
