Do you clean/wash out your coffee machine’s water tank, and with what?

Some say once a week some once a month. I know the filter I use look to have a 3 month working life according to the manufacturers so is that the best time to clean out the water tank too?

I ask because now the warm weather is upon us (currently 28 here according to my thermometer) the wee beasties in water are a bit more active. Given that I am looking at once a week now…overkill or what?

Another thought…just how full do you keep your water tank? Does that vary according to temp (less in summer than winter) or how much you intend to drink?

Also depends where the tank is possibly. If it’s near enough to the boiler to stay fairly warm it might need cleaning more often.

On my Bianca I had to remove/wash the tank weekly otherwise it smelled like an old fishbowl.

On the Linea Mini I just drain/wipe it weekly with a damp cloth whilst attached to the machine and then wash it properly monthly.

I keep the water level fairly low and top it up daily so water doesn’t sit for more than a day really.

This is actually very important, only fill with the days water requirements…which for me is usually a full tank. Some people think because they have a big tank, they should fill it and then of course it can sit there for 3 or 4 days if they don’t consume enough.

Yup. I was one of those and have since learned from my mistake. Now I only put in enough for two maybe three days worth and clean the tank every week. With the Sage It’s only a five minute job.

The tank on the Evo is a pain in the arse to take out and put back in. I only do this once a month or so. I think the reservoir holds 2 litres and I put at least one litre a day in if not more. The Evo uses a lot of water when making a shot compared to other machines I have had
