dfk41 Do you not think the balance of the shot is affected since a spouted pf is far hotter than a bottomless?

It’s affectinflg temp but not in the way you’re saying, even a preheated spouted PF resulted in a cooler shot of espresso than an non-preheated bottomless PF in my testing. Ran approx. 8-10c cooler.

But some people do like cooling their shots and claim it does great things mind you.

    I run Firefox. Downloaded it for Firefox, and it shows as active in my settings, but when clicking on any link of tinyurl here, again all I get is server not found. I like using Firefox rather than Chrome, so I will just have to put up with it.

        My puck screen, whilst not the same brand, is the same in every other respect. However, recently I read about someone using a paper puck screen. So, I grabbed some Aeropress papers, drew round my metal puck screen and spent 15 minutes cutting them to size… and yes, before you comment, that is about as exciting as my life gets.

        Like my metal puck screen, the paper one worked like a charm, but the one difference was that I found I could control the pressure the water went through easier. With the metal screen, it would tend to overshoot more and need more adjusting, but with the paper one, it seemed to hit the 9 bar more consistently.

        As for taste?… Well, can’t say I noticed any difference, but then I love sprouts, so that probably says it all.

        dfk41 I think some tasting cards would be useful for someone like you. Your palate will improve the more you test it 🙂👍

          JimmyP Tasting cards or no tasting cards, I make two types of coffee. Those I like and those I do not like! No amount of tasting notes or the ability to detect certain aromas/tastes will change a coffee that you do not like into one that you do. Jacu Bird coffee? Please tell me you also drink Civet coffee! You and I could taste as many coffees as you like, I doubt we would agree greatly on the outcome. The reason for that is that what I taste is my opinion, just the same as yours, but it is an interesting concept. Thank you for your suggestion
