Crankhouse Colombia Jeremiah Cordobah El Carmen
Took the filter burrs set out for my morning coffee
The swap took 1:10 mins.
I had just 0.5g retention of the espresso burrs set from the clean grinder. The grinder is always going to start on a clean slate going forward as I swap the burrs set daily.
The retention of the filter burrs set is just 0.15g.
I tried and sifted two settings on the Duo filter burrs set . The first was at 40 Mark. It was too coarse that is likely to get a weaker cup. The fines going through Kruve 400 sieve were 6.6%.
The second grind size was at 35 on the filter burrs set. This was far better and is in the usual 8%-9% range at 8.5% for Kruve 400.
I have not brewed using my hand grinder today as I want to get used to the Duo filter burrs set to get a grind reference. This comparison will have to wait.
I combined both grinds to brew The Crankhouse’ Jeremiah Cardobah for the morning coffee.
24g powder, 360g water, 6 pours x 60g every 30s and a total brew time of 3:20 mins.
It was an excellent coffee - like espresso. It was clean, sweet and a clear delineation of notes. Pineapple (sweet, smooth and a gentle acidity) at the start, bright blood orange fruit acidity at the middle and a lingering caramel at the finish and after taste.
I will sift a tightened grind reference on the Duo filter burrs to 33 and see if takes me closer to 9% and brew
