I had long thought of, since getting the Evo, having a dedicated thread to share my coffee experience. The laziness got the better off me. I also didn’t have much recounting the journey stories like experienced folks like Dave, dfk41, Systemic, MRS, Jake and many more. Jake’s recording of his journey is beautiful. With the duo due to be delivered soon, it’s about time I take a leaf out of Jake’s and have a thread sharing the user experience of using the Duo the way it was originally meant to be and designed for. Swapping the burrs seem to be quick and easy. Can one really integrate it as a part of a daily routine? Or, would it become a faff over time - what ever may be the reason ? I make 3 espressos in the morning for 3 and at least a filter or two for self during the day. There may or may be any decaf espressos in the evening. I think users like self are perfect candidates for the duo. I have every intentions of swapping the burrs - there is no reason not to otherwise. It remains to be seen if I will enjoy using the dual burrs daily or get bored swapping daily after the honeymoon period - 3 months! I will post my views as I experience it. There will not be any reviews or comparisons for three reasons. 1) I can’t be asked, 2) Tom, I am sure, will do the honours as usual and 3) I can’t afford to buy :-) I do want to know how I will like the espresso (taste wise) from JX pro vs the duo. I mostly drink medium light / light. I take full 2 mins to grind 17g. One thing for sure is I won’t be missing the hand-grinding part! 😁 More later!

cant wait for you to get hands on, its about time they hit the hands of more real world users, im sure you will love the grinder, im finding 6 to be a good starting point with beans for espresso and then 30-40 range with filter, which i dont drink alot of tbh,

I think Niche suggest this, but if you can, once unboxed, leave it to come to room temp which takes an hour or so. If you touch it, it will be freezing cold which is just a by product of the delivery system……enjoy matey!

You will find that while waiting for the kettle to boil, you can swap the burrs, why not to get extra good filter as opposed to just using the espresso burrs.

Opened @LeefromFoundryCR’s Ethiopian. Lovely coffee, bright and juicy; and, Jasmine and Orange are the main flavours. Black tea like finish.

Ethiopian somehow doesn’t stick well with me. But, this is very good.

The other two - Honduras and El Salvador are perfect for flat whites. I am not a great fan of these as a black. My wife loves it as a flat white with a tiny drop of sugar in it.

I’ve got plenty of filter beans ATM so will buy some beans for flat whites. I’m pretty much in the Medium camp.
Any you would recommend over the other in the current offerings? (El Salvador does sound good)

I wasn’t happy as a black as I couldn’t get any flavours. I am not a fan of chocolates on my black. I didn’t enjoy it at all. I also think cold / viral messed up my palette. 😊

My wife said it is great with milk. So, she will get to drink the rest. 😁

LMSC Decided on the foundry subscription for the time being, just took delivery of the El Salvador. Can you recall the grind setting for espresso on the duo? (Will leave it to rest for a week)

Enjoyed Crankhouse’s El Placer Red Honey.

Full of floral aroma and strawberry taste. It is full bodied, smooth and has a creamy texture. It gives a great finish with a gin like sweet tart edge.

After all, it wasn’t viral/cold/covid that messed up the other coffee.

LMSC my zero point must be VERY different. Had to go past Zero (which I’ve never done) just to get an acceptable extraction. Wasted quite a bit of coffee so will use the remainder in the aeropress. I’m unable to give any opinion on the El Salvador as a result.

ST30B Mine is the same but so what? It is only a point of reference for the grind on your next shot. If 2 folks use the same grinder, smae beans and one grinds at zero and the other at 8……what conclusion do you draw?

@ST30B As dfk said, it is only a reference point. However, you can re-zero as you might be wondering how close you might be with burrs touching. You can also check if the bolt holding the lower burr carrier is tight enough. Thx

LMSC 👍 I rarely notice tbf as majority of my beans are medium, medium/dark(4 on the duo espresso burr). Getting more light/medium beans now from subscriptions so may need to consider rezeroing, just to be more precise/waste less coffee. (250g doesn’t go far)

I’m just about finished a bag of the Foundry Bensa Ethiopia beans they’re absolutely fantastic in milk and as an Americano with a dash of milk.

As an aside my grind setting on the Duo with those beans is around 6 that’s the finest grind I’ve ever had to use.

Juicy, sweet, creamy tropical acidity with a lemon finish. Pulled at 94C/100C for 43+g lasting 45s. I may loosen the grind by 0.5 to 7.

Crankhouse Rwanda Ireme Red Bourbon Anaerobic Natural

Full bodied, sweet, and syrupy, full of boozy and spices (like cloves and cinnamon) aroma and taste. The stone fruit acidity is on the milder side. Nice coffee to drink, although it is on the darker side for me. My wife loved it as a flat white.
