I had long thought of, since getting the Evo, having a dedicated thread to share my coffee experience. The laziness got the better off me. I also didn’t have much recounting the journey stories like experienced folks like Dave, dfk41, Systemic, MRS, Jake and many more. Jake’s recording of his journey is beautiful. With the duo due to be delivered soon, it’s about time I take a leaf out of Jake’s and have a thread sharing the user experience of using the Duo the way it was originally meant to be and designed for. Swapping the burrs seem to be quick and easy. Can one really integrate it as a part of a daily routine? Or, would it become a faff over time - what ever may be the reason ? I make 3 espressos in the morning for 3 and at least a filter or two for self during the day. There may or may be any decaf espressos in the evening. I think users like self are perfect candidates for the duo. I have every intentions of swapping the burrs - there is no reason not to otherwise. It remains to be seen if I will enjoy using the dual burrs daily or get bored swapping daily after the honeymoon period - 3 months! I will post my views as I experience it. There will not be any reviews or comparisons for three reasons. 1) I can’t be asked, 2) Tom, I am sure, will do the honours as usual and 3) I can’t afford to buy :-) I do want to know how I will like the espresso (taste wise) from JX pro vs the duo. I mostly drink medium light / light. I take full 2 mins to grind 17g. One thing for sure is I won’t be missing the hand-grinding part! 😁 More later!

cant wait for you to get hands on, its about time they hit the hands of more real world users, im sure you will love the grinder, im finding 6 to be a good starting point with beans for espresso and then 30-40 range with filter, which i dont drink alot of tbh,

I think Niche suggest this, but if you can, once unboxed, leave it to come to room temp which takes an hour or so. If you touch it, it will be freezing cold which is just a by product of the delivery system……enjoy matey!

You will find that while waiting for the kettle to boil, you can swap the burrs, why not to get extra good filter as opposed to just using the espresso burrs.

Have brewed this Crankhouse again a few times on V60, Switch and espresso. Haven’t made any real progress. I give up rather than trying to chasing the quality. It is one of those odd ones. 🤷🏽😊

Darkwoods Colombia Finca El Placer Wush Wush Dark Honey

I haven’t had Wush Wush before. So, I can’t judge.

It is a pretty interesting coffee. I didn’t wow me for sure. But, it is another nice coffee lacking excellence. It is bright, full of aroma and flavour - orange / berries and Asian spices.

The ground aroma is full of Asian spices - roasted coriander seeds. I am used to this, given my roots. The aroma and taste profile of the spices stays throughout with a classic savoury finish and after taste. I will put up the temperature by 1C to 94/100 to brighten the cup further as the acidity is a little muted at 93C/99C.

Not sure, many will like this coffee. I will brew this for lunch and see.

Pulled a couple of more shots at 94C/100C. One was 17.5g at 7 on the Duo and the other was 16.5g at 6 on the Duo. I have to say the 2nd shot coffee was very good. I think it is the savoury spices — very much the roasted and ground coriander seeds and lemon grass — have come in the way of a great coffee, at least for me.

Pulled a few shots that ran 18s to 22s for 43g+ muted acidity with a dry and a little bitter earthy finish at 18s at 92/98 to 93/99 at 6 on the Duo. Neither the tighter grind size to 5 nor 94C/100C helped improve the taste except the finish was not likeable. I thought it was a little better than the other Django initially; but, just didn’t suit my taste profile.

I have 0.5 KG of their sugarcane decaf. It looks really light reminding me of their Mexican mountain water decaf that I couldn’t even grind on my old JX pro years ago. I have given a half to my girl. Her response will be interesting as drinks >= medium only.

Foundry’s decaf are always on the lighter side and great. This bag will be interesting.
