I had long thought of, since getting the Evo, having a dedicated thread to share my coffee experience. The laziness got the better off me. I also didn’t have much recounting the journey stories like experienced folks like Dave, dfk41, Systemic, MRS, Jake and many more. Jake’s recording of his journey is beautiful. With the duo due to be delivered soon, it’s about time I take a leaf out of Jake’s and have a thread sharing the user experience of using the Duo the way it was originally meant to be and designed for. Swapping the burrs seem to be quick and easy. Can one really integrate it as a part of a daily routine? Or, would it become a faff over time - what ever may be the reason ? I make 3 espressos in the morning for 3 and at least a filter or two for self during the day. There may or may be any decaf espressos in the evening. I think users like self are perfect candidates for the duo. I have every intentions of swapping the burrs - there is no reason not to otherwise. It remains to be seen if I will enjoy using the dual burrs daily or get bored swapping daily after the honeymoon period - 3 months! I will post my views as I experience it. There will not be any reviews or comparisons for three reasons. 1) I can’t be asked, 2) Tom, I am sure, will do the honours as usual and 3) I can’t afford to buy :-) I do want to know how I will like the espresso (taste wise) from JX pro vs the duo. I mostly drink medium light / light. I take full 2 mins to grind 17g. One thing for sure is I won’t be missing the hand-grinding part! 😁 More later!

cant wait for you to get hands on, its about time they hit the hands of more real world users, im sure you will love the grinder, im finding 6 to be a good starting point with beans for espresso and then 30-40 range with filter, which i dont drink alot of tbh,

I think Niche suggest this, but if you can, once unboxed, leave it to come to room temp which takes an hour or so. If you touch it, it will be freezing cold which is just a by product of the delivery system……enjoy matey!

You will find that while waiting for the kettle to boil, you can swap the burrs, why not to get extra good filter as opposed to just using the espresso burrs.

Darkwoods Colombia El Placer Pink Bourbon IPA

Makes a lovely espresso and rich, creamy and very sweet flat white. It probably has a nutty flavour at the backend of the flat white.

17.4g, 43g+, #7 on the Duo and 25s. It is perfect already, although I might tighten it a bit to see the variations in taste. 😊

Edit:

I won’t say the flavours were oozing out of the flat white. I am not a fan of milk-based coffee as I think the notes and acidity are lost when milk is added. 😊

Smith Street Nicaragua Maracaturra Anaerobic Natural

Makes a lovely filter, espresso and flat white. It is very bright, juicy and has a nice citrus finish.

Pulled 17.5g at about 1:2.5 ratio, #7 on the Duo, 93/99 and 22s.

This coffee from Smith Street (£11.5 per 250g) is way better than the previous bag (£25 per 250g).

Lovely coffee. It was like drinking sweet peach tea with a lime finish. Pulled 17.4g at 94/100, 7 on the Duo for about 43+g.

Sweven Colombia El Diviso Huila washed thermal shock - Filter roast

Really on the lighter side. The floral, aroma and the taste are as described on the tin. Plenty of very sweet passion fruit and rosemary. It was brighter but having a gentle acidify. I won’t say it wowed me. But, I enjoyed drinking as an espresso. Filter / Brew will have to wait for a couple of days at least.

17.3g, 43g+, 94/100, 7 on the Duo and 27s.

Sweven Indonesia Pegasing Natural CM Gayo

Very nice, it was lovely and you get as described. This coffee is excellent compared to their disappointing El Diviso especially as a brew across the brew medium.

Sweven Colombia Los Negales

Expensive but the best so far. It was juicy, full of bright berries acidity, floral aroma and was sweet to drink as an Americano.

Pulled 1:2.5 (~43g) lasting 23s at 94/100 and ground at 8.5 on the Duo. Perhaps, #8 should be ok.

@LeefromFoundryCR’s Ethiopian Chelbesa and Luis Anibal were nice and so is Malawi Gesha from Spaceboy.

Long story short, the work situation got gone a little hectic hardly giving me space to attend personal and family affairs. I do not see any let up on the work-side situation in the foreseeable future. Apart from this, I haven’t any coffee of notable importance. 🙂

LMSC That will be in my hopper tomorrow. In a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of being light, it’s described as 1 - the lightest. Fact is… they don’t look very light to me. 🤷‍♂️ I had others and they were “2” in the scale… and lighter in colour. Go figure.

Hopefully, you would also enjoy as a flat white. My wife liked this coffee with milk. 😊

Ultimately, Darkwoods disappointed me. Others on here complained about receiving beans several weeks old, so I am not surprised to learn thta light beans are not what was expected!

I have had coffee that was as described from Dark Woods, but I was over optimistic in my expectation (e.g. Brazilian & Gesha), also taken a random punt and not enjoyed the results (the Yemen), but the El Placer fruit fermentations were all excellent, still the best I have had this year.

Kiss the Hippo’s Fruitopia and the Kenyan - Kagumoini were good as flat whites. Both were pulled at 94C/100C with a grind size of 13 on the Duo.
