Is coffee more complex than wine?
I always find comparisons to wine a bit odd, seeing as we buy the ingredient and brew by the cup. How would wine fare if we bought grapes & fermented wine by the glass (rather than a made in large & consistent batches)? The few pre made coffee products I have bought have not been complex.
So if we buy a bean with certain notes and for whatever reason (innacurate notes, vague brew recommendations, that once in a while odd result from an otherwise representative bean) is there much value in the excercise?
Plus specialty lots with specific characteristics are not consistently available. So if you have food that would paired well with an El Salvador natural Pacamara with notes of overripe banana, it’s going to be an experience you can only have once a decade 😀
I tend to drink coffee after eating & treat it as it’s own sensory experience.
