I always look at the Decent and feel shivers down my spine! I am not talking about the capabilities of the machine but when I see the screen with all the variables that you can control, makes me realise just how little I know about the mechanics of making a shot…..so, hat’s off to you all!

all you do is press a button - just like lifting a lever,

you can go all out if you want to nerd out, but imo there are enough presets to find something you like.

I look at owning the Decent machine the same way I do as owning an Aston Martin… not in this life!

To be honest, even if I were lucky enough to win the lottery or have a long-lost very rich relative leave me their fortune, whilst I would love to buy a Decent, I would not have a clue what to do with it. That machine, rather like the Aston Martin, which unless I lived in Germany and could drive on the autobahn would be wasted on me.

Watching the Lance video, I was gobsmacked at the amount of ‘fiddling’ sorry, changing of parameters that you could do. So much so, I would be completely overwhelmed.

The main problem for me, is that because I wouldn’t know a fantastic coffee brew if it came up and slapped me in the face, I have no idea what I would need to change to get to it.

Yes, I know you can tell it to duplicate a certain machine’s profile and leave it to do its thang, but then what a waste.

I love it, I want it, but would feel a complete charlatan if I owned one. And with my level of expertise and palate, would still make more undrinkable shots (to any of you proper coffee experts anyway) than not. This is also why if my Sage Dual boiler, which was a massive step-up for me from my Gaggia ever gives up the ghost, I would not have a clue what to replace it with.

Having said all that, if money really were no object…. As they say, there are no pockets in shrouds. I wonder if Aston Martin do pedal extensions for people under 5′5″? :)

I would suggest it is rather more affordable than the Aston Martin . Im not there yet though but never say never, at keast for a Decent!!

And Lance always makes everything look ,… I am struggling to find the right word to publish 🤔

He was better when he was more interested in the BDB!! Hes less watchable by the video!

To continue the car analogy, just as the majority of Aston Martin (or any other supercar) drivers probably don’t use 99% of the electronic aids and wizardry in modern fast cars, you don’t need to use all of the Decent’s functionality to make the best of it.

If anything it’s actually easier to use as a profiling machine than manual profilers because you’re pressing one button to recall a curve rather perfectly rather than trying to do it manually.

It’s definitely a premium machine but I think as @Cuprajake says, the beauty is that it can be as simple or as complex as you’d like it to be.

If profiling control is your jam then I personally don’t think there’s a better machine out there for the above reasons.

fwiw my mrs says its the best machine we have had,

and while i dont play half as much as i should, its nice to have the option, bit like the flow control on the bianca,

i know people poo poo it, but for my style of coffee i find it works really well for me and my setup, not im not using a £3000 grinder with it,

but i get the flavor note on the bag, and i know its trendy to pull turbo shots etc, but i find a lever sytle profile(homemade) works really well, and again i dont struggle with mouth feel, but that could be my pallet but id like to think its tuned in enough given the machines ive had access too

Cuprajake Well, I watched it. Compared to other reviewers style, he seemed to take this one quite seriously and I enjoyed it. He made me see the Decent in a whole new light. It is still a Marmite machine but I appreciate what it can do now.

Are there any other Decent owners on here apart from you Jake?

think theres three of us, maybe four now @Grahamsphillips has one

they are marmite as you say, and before i got one i was quite critical of the machine, the sound and the sale method, but you cant argue they stand by the product, listen to customers and the support is probably the best in the business.

Am assuming there is a likely itch which may have be addressed some time in the future. If one of those grinders were to go, this may tuck into the place nicely. Perhaps, for decaf or as an add on 😂😜🫣
