europa Hey, guys. My Elizabeth has started leaking water from the group head when pulling shots. Would this be caused by the red o ring or the black gasket? Or should i just replace both? FYI - i have removed, cleaned, and reinserted both to no avail.
MediumRoastSteam europa - it’s quite hard to search for content in this forum. Presumably the water is leaking from outside the portafilter., Rather than from the top of the group. when was the last time you changed your group gasket? when did you last removed and cleaned it? did you placed it the right way up? is it a silicone (red) or rubber (black)?
Cuprajake If you search back this has been covered by someone else in the last month. I can’t remember the user however
europa Cuprajake I did a search before and have just tried again, but i cannot find said post unfortunately.
MediumRoastSteam Hard to diagnose with words. A close up video clearly showing where the leak is coming from would be ideal. Ps: best of luck sourcing that red o-ring, specially after Brexit. Good news is that’s unlikely to be that.
europa MediumRoastSteam I’ve never changed any gasket. The machine is about 2.5 years old. I took them out yesterday and cleaned them for the first time. As mentioned, i took out both the red (silicone) and black (rubber) gaskets. Pretty sure i put back the correct way, but the leak had started before i removed them anyway.
europa That thread i have seen, but my leak is from lower down in the group head, hence why i assumed it’s the red o ring. Here’s a video:
europa MediumRoastSteam The leak in the other thread is from the top of the group gasket. Mine is from the bottom. Edit - just seen your latest post - thanks ! :-)
MediumRoastSteam Time to change the group gasket. Make sure the group is clean and free of coffee gunk all around before you put it back. Carefully replacing the red o-ring and make sure it’s correctly in place when slotting the dispersion plate back on. I recommend the cafelat 8mm red silicone gasket.
europa MediumRoastSteam So, only replace the original black gasket with the cafelat one? And keep the original red o ring?
Inspector Have a look if that red o ring is seated correctly also. I have installed shower screen holder to group head once without realising that o ring wasn’t installed properly. And black gasket is smooth face down.
europa Guys, just a quick update to say that swapping out the group gasket did the trick. Many thanks again!
