Bit of an odd one but I am on the lookout for a good frying pan. it needs to be 12 inches or so, with or without a lid. I keep on watching recipes on YT where the frying pans look very modern in design, always non stick and they quite often do not use oil if the meat is going to release fats like bacon does. This is just a shout out in case anyone can point me in the right direction!
Frying pan
Highly recommend this:
I got the 2 piece set about 4 years ago and both are as good as new
I always use a cast iron skillet. Its the original non-stick pan.
I do wish mine had a cover, and not a heavy cast iron cover either. Something light!.

Came here to say what @dutchy101 said!
We’ve got the large and medium sizes and they’re absolutely brilliant. We’ve got an old Le Creuset and honestly the M&S is on par for a fraction of the cost.
Nice and weighty, decent gauge steel and the coating is none of this flake-off rubbish. Also very easy to clean and maintain.
As a secondary recommendation, we’ve had an ‘Our Place’ pan for about a year. I was sceptical as it’s a new brand and looked trendy to me but it’s turned out to be very very good. Unbelievable coating and I really enjoy cooking in it.

We’ve been using Tefal ingenio set for about 3 years and they must be the best non stick we’ve had. We are using induction hob and they are so quick to react as well.
Love the removable handle design as well but some hate it !

Jony Why non stick? I have no idea really Jony. I suppose it was just something I grew up with!
HarveyMushman Many thanks for the recommendation. That ‘Always’ pan looks very interesting indeed and is top of the list so far! If you only had one pan of the two you have, which would you go for? I have to be honest and say I do not really do anything exotic in it. Obviously frying bacon, eggs etc but I also cook pasta sauces and the like.

The ‘Always’ pan.
Honestly it’s a surprise to me as I’m a bit of a traditionalist and like my Le Creuset for how solid/hard-wearing they are etc but it’s a really, really great pan. We bought one for my Mum last Christmas and she also raves about it.
I haven’t read into what non-stick coating they use but it’s like magic. Before this if we were doing sauces/stocks/chilli/dahls etc we’d never do them in a frying pan, always in a pot or saucepan but the ‘Always’ seems to work for everything.
It is so easy to clean too, again down to the coating I think. Ours looks good as new after a year of daily use.
I’ve bought two at the full price and wouldn’t hesitate to buy another.
EDIT!
I forgot to say it can’t go in the oven so if you need a pan that can, this isn’t it and I’d go with the M&S!
Also, there seems to be a lot of bad reviews online. Perhaps we bought the only 2 good ones or people don’t know how to treat their pans? I’d be the first to say if I thought they were cr*p!

I’ve been using Circulon Infinite frying pans for three years. I have three, 7 inch, 9 inch and 12 inch. They are superb, the non stick is like magic - I usually add a drop of oil but fatty stuff like bacon needs none and they wash well - mine look like new.
Until I overheated one of them coupe of months ago - left it on an induction hob at full power to heat and forgot for a few minutes - it was as hot as the sun by the time I remembered - it didn’t work well after that.
They have a “lifetime warranty” so thought I’d see if they would replace - filed in the online warranty form, I had no proof of purchase but just had to add two photos of the pan. Got a reply next morning saying a replacement was in the post and it turned up the next day.
I would absolutely recommend - https://circulon.uk.com/collections/black-friday-event-bakeware-cookware-offers/products/infinite-nonstick-induction-frying-pan-twin-pack

Our favourite is a copper bottomed stainless steel bought from Sainsbury’s at least a decade ago. It doesn’t stick very often and goes in the oven. Also have a couple of Circulon Steelshield frying pans. So far they are proving very effective. I’m not keen on aluminium pans.
Best test for non stick is frying eggs. It’s the protein that binds to the pan’s surface and causes problems. Even non-stick will cause eggs to stick if you don’t do it right. With all pans the secret is making sure the pan is up temp. Cheffy way to check is to drop of few drops of water on to the surface - if they bead and dance, you’re good to go. Cooking medium - be it oil or whatever needs to be allowed to heat up not smoke and then you will find that you don’t have problems with sticking - even with stainless steel.
With any pan be it non-stick, stainless steel or whatever, you want one with a base that has decent heft so it can heat up evenly and retain the heat.

Systemic I have tried all sorts of non-stick frying pans over the years and whilst the more expensive ones do last ‘non-stick’ for longer, they always eventually degrade to become ‘stick’. And I ‘baby’ them by never overheating them which can destroy the non-stick coating in one easy move. The fried egg test as you say is the best way of telling if non-stick property is still there.
In the end, I stumbled across Ikea’s stainless steel ‘Sensuell’ range - [https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/sensuell-frying-pan-stainless-steel-grey-60324544/](https://) - although not cheap (but certainly not pricey in UK), the build quality is excellent. It feels like it too, with substantial weight and thick multi-layer construction. Because of that, they hold their heat well and when up to temperature only require a low heat to keep the contents cooking and very evenly across the surface of the pan.
I have 24cm & 28cm sizes which cover most bases.
Even though they are plain stainless steel, I find leaving them to soak in hot water for a while, any baked on food comes off easily with no effort.
I reckon they will outlast me!😉
One further thought. Cillit Bang Burnt-On Degreaser is amazing for cleaning burnt on food from frying pans and ovenware. A quick spray, leave it to do it’s thing for a few minutes and clean up is easy. A transformational product!

We use an Ikea frying pan which is SS and can take some amount of heat, I use it for cooking steaks outside on a propane burner, definitely the best frying pan for cooking stuff that needs caramelised or plenty of heat, the pan blackens with the heat but it’s easy enough to clean it when it cools down.
We’ve a Le Creustet (sp) griddle pan which cost about £80 and it’s good but you can’t get the heat into it like the Ikea one plus the smoke that comes off the pan is unreal and that’s even with no oil in the pan just using the fat on the steak so there’s no way I’d attempt to cook them inside in the kitchen.
I’ve tried other cast iron frying pans, ie cheap ones and they’re all the same you just can’t get the heat into them although sometimes that’s because I’m using them outside and the temperature is cold.
My wife bought a huge 30″ (I think) Ikea non stick frying pan but that is a bit hit and miss with fried eggs as in when I turn them in the pan the yolks burst but the SS Ikea pan is great for eggs but you need to control the heat so used inside on an induction hob bit hit and miss though with fried eggs ie bursting the yolk when you turn them, I can’t stand white runny eggs which is why I turn them in order to cook the white part.
In saying that my mother used to use a knife and flick hot fat/oil onto the egg’ surface to cook the whites. Personally I prefer not to use loads of oil or fat like some people use to cook fried eggs.
Carry on😀
Steel pan, so hot water just dances around on the surface when you add a few drops and it’ll be non stick enough.

A good trick is to fry it first but instead of flipping it over add a tablespoon of water to the pan and put the lid on/cover it. Really easy to get fully cooked whites and you can get the yolk soft, runny or well done.
I highly recommend Tefal Titanium excellence. We have 32cm one and Tesco doing a deal atm, £19, discounted from £32.
I ended up looking at all suggestions, and decided to buy the Always pan. I rarely splash out £85 on a pan but hey ho! Being retired, I have the time to complete many surveys online and we usually spend the accumulated funds on something we would not normally buy…..so, in for a penny!
Well, the pan arrived a few mi nutes ago, just after I had watched this
the first few minutes ismy pan and it has thoroughly put me off now!

There seems to be a lot of criticism of this pan online making me believe I’ve either somehow got the only good one they ever made, or people don’t know how to treat pans.
As above, we’ve used ours literally every single day for at least a year for frying, sauces, stews and it’s good as new. Used on gas and induction. It’s never been in the dishwasher, maybe that’s why.
Here’s pics of ours next to a Le Creuset that’s seen similar use (which still works great to be fair).

HarveyMushman If you fill your le creuset with cold water then add a couple of tablespoons of bleach overnight, it will get rid of a lot of that stuff harvey…..I am not pressing any panic buttons just yet but I do want something that works as claimed. To be fair I have not watched many reviews yet and do not necessarily believe them anyway!
Just watched a movie about Dupont and Teflon and the water contamination and thousands of deaths they knowingly caused. The movie is Dark Waters and the chemical is C8 (PFOA). I will never again buy anything coated with Teflon; I know that the current version is apparently safe, but ewe. I will attempt to boycott Dupont and successor companies. They were the definition of corporate evil.
Not sure about the more current versions of non-stick coatings (do they contain C8) but I would be really really careful before I bought. Everything I own that is non-stick is now suspect after having watched that movie.
I ended up not even opening the box for the AtHome frying pan. There was a lot of YT backlash which I ignore, but quite a few vlogs did re reviews at 6 to 12 months and that is what put me off. I have looked ay dozens of others since and for the mo, am going to keep my Lakeland pan till it is no longer serviceable, then worry about it!
Many thanks to everyone who contributed

I’ve been looking for one of those oven to table saute pans or shallow casserole dishes at a reasonably affordable price. I couldn’t believe just how many there are but virtually all made in China. Even Tefal that is a French company have them made in China.
When I looked for a British made pan there was only one that really stood out, Samual Groves a Birmingham company that have been making cookware since 1800 and frozen to death but they want about £160!
Same as when I went into B&Q looking at the tools. Even though they were giving different brand names that if you didn’t know better - or looked closer - would have you believe they were coming from somewhere like Sweden or Germany, every single one of them were actually made in China. In fact there was not a single item I could find that was not made in China.
Even Le Crueset whilst the cast iron pans are made in northern France all their accessories yes including porcelain and ceramics are…yes you’ve guessed it, made in China.
Nothing against the Chinese, in fact they have been very clever in what they have done and I have had to resort to buying Chinese manufactured stuff like the Ingenio Pans from Tefal recently. But what a shame we have relinquished most of our manufacturing like this.
It is sad when only a few of us can actually afford to buy British.
We bought Samual groves non stick frying pan last year and just recently bought a smaller one. We also have their pans which are really solid well built with some weight in them. Really pleased so far with Samual grove stuff. Just bought a ninja non stick frying pan which can go in the oven up to 260c, half price in J.L so if it gets ruined it has not cost us a fortune. We had le crueset non stick and they did not last as well as we expected, so we looked for something made in the uk. That’s when we found Samual groves. We do try to buy British but it can cost you.
I’ve given up on Tefal and t other coatings that degrade and cause the pan to be thrown away. I’ve got cast iron skillets that will outlast me and my children and also now carbon steel frying pans. You can get them preseasoned but the more you use them the more non stick they get.
As for cleaning, anything that does stick, a bit of water in the hot pan on the hob to deglaze and it comes off. Either with food still in for a sauce or just to clean.
De Buyer are not expensive for a lifetime pan. £62 for 28cm.
And made in France.
I bought the stainless steel Ingenio triple pot set rather than the ones with non-stick. I like the fact I can remove the handle and they will fit in both my gas and Panasonic combi ovens. The last non-stick deep sided frying pan I bought was from a company called Haufson and it cost me £65.99. To be fair it is my go-to pan but again I want one I can fit in the oven.
The stainless steel ones are easy to clean and there are plenty of tips on YouTube showing how you can actually cook with stainless steel pans without any sticking or at least very little. Non-stick quick wipe clean is great but like many I have found it just doesn’t last.

I stayed out of this because I am a frying pan nut.
My favourite pan is a 50 year old cast iron 10″ jobbie that I bought at a disposals store in my youth.
My daily go to pans are 6″ carbon steel french chefs pans.
For big jobs I use a 15″ SS flat bottomed wok which doubles as a deep fryer.
I have a smaller 10″ carbon steel wok for two person stir fries.
I have a set of Solidtechnics iron pans that are ok but not as good as my others.
I would like to try their SS units but, even for me they are bloody expensive and I don’t have kids to pass them down to.
I have a couple of Teflon pans for the Studmistress.
She prefers them and the durries will kill her before the PFAS.
Pompeyexile Ingenio triple pot set
Any chance of a link matey?
Funny enough I am in the hunt for some new pans…
Lots of choice still deciding between carbon or a non stick of some sort.
I have a le cresuet skillet which I think is a coated cast iron of some sort - never really worked that well I found and is very heavy.
Just waiting to see if there are any black friday deals at Samuel Groves.. Also could do with a good sized tray for the christmas dinner this year !
Cheers
Matt
I went all stainless steel a while back, with one Tefal pan that I use for things like eggs. This one is always hand washed so it hopefully lasts a while.
The stainless steel pans should last forever and clean up really easy. My fav is the De Buyer frying pan, a joy to cook with and after years of use still looks brand new. There’s nothing you can’t throw at them 👌🏻

We have a McArthurGlen outlet up here near York and there is a Tefal shop there which is where I bought ours (reduced massivley in the Black Friday deals)…
Looking on the Tefal website they don’t seem to show that particular set any longer available. Argos do sell it but at £100. You will notice they do not come with lids but again Tefal being the crafty money grabbing b******s they are, sell them seperately. We bought both the cooking lids (£48 down to £33.50) and the storage lids (£11) and so all in, came to less (£79.50) than what the 3 pots and removeable handle came to alone.
