Lelit Elizabeth V3 - steam wand getting hot

Hello everyone,

I have a Lelit Elizabeth V3, and recently the whole steam wand has been getting quite hot after steaming milk. It’s always been completely cool touch before this issue arose.

I’ve always been diligent to not close the valve too tightly (per Dave C’s advice in his Maintenance guide), and the steam wand is not dripping or spluttering when turned off. The performance also seems to be unaffected - I can steam milk with plenty of power.

I suspect there is a leak in the teflon coating somewhere - from a bit of research it seems that the Steam Valve is the most likely culprit?

Does anyone have any idea, or link to a guide/video, on how I should isolate/fix the issue? Unfortunately I live quite far away from my local Lelit dealer/service centre, so I need to fix this myself if possible.

Did you remove the steam tip for cleaning recently?

Thanks, @DavecUK. I haven’t cleaned it recently but I just took it off and it’s clean - both holes totally see through and clear of debris. Also no sign of degradation or damage.

jrc010 - think what Dave means is…did you put it back in a way that the Teflon pipe is within the o-ring inside the steam tip? Check that. And when you say it’s getting hot… can you still touch it? Mine gets warm after steaming milk. A non-insulated want would cause a 1st degree burn if you touch it for a few seconds.

And when it gets hot… is it near the tip or near the top where it join the nut?

Edit: I just took mine off. It’s pretty impossible to not put the Teflon pipe inside the inner red-o ring, but do check that. I also touched the steam wand after steaming and, although it gets hot, it can be comfortably manoeuvred and even held. You wouldn’t be able to do that if there was a leak in the inner teflon tube.

@MediumRoastSteam thanks for clarifying. Just checked again and the teflon tube is definitely well down within the o-ring of the tip.

It gets warm throughout the whole wand. It’s not too hot to touch unless I leave my hand on it for a few seconds, but it didn’t used to be warm in the slightest, so it feels as if something has changed/broken. It was a case of one day it was fine, then the next it suddenly changed - I noticed it straight away.

Obviously it’s not a massive issue, especially as I usually only steam a single small pitcher at a time, but I’d rather try to fix it, in case it gets worse or indicates a bigger issue. Cheers for your help.

jrc010 - presumably the only way to find out is to take the steam arm off (easy) and then take it apart and check if the teflon tube is secured and sealed against the ball valve so that there’s no leaks. As you are there, you may as well check the tube for cracks or leaks. Good luck, keep us posted.
