InfamousTuba thinking I might do a more indepth comparision between the 3: DF64, DF64 Gen 2 and DF64V.
For now though, main differences between G2 and the V.
Retention (or lack of it) is a lot better on the G2 thanks to the inbuilt plasma thingy. Retention on the V is OK but it’s never going to win any prizes for that.
The V gets the nod for form factor being slimmer and having a smaller foot print.
I like the idea of variable RPM on the V but TBH I’m not yet convinced that I could spot the difference in a blind taste test (I’ll run one eventually).
I prefer the stock burrs in the V for milk based drinks. For some reason which escapes me, the espresso is distinctly different from each burr set even though the only difference appears to be that the burrs in the V are coated with the same stuff that the Gorilla Gear burrs use (Diamond Like Carbon or DLC). That said, the espresso from the stock burrs in the G2 also has plenty of body and flavor, just different flavor notes than the V. If I had to describe the difference I’d say the G2 has nuttier notes and the V more chocolate like notes. The DLC burrs are reasonably priced and suppliers like df64coffee.com in Singapore even offer the DLC as an upgrade for the G2 at time of ordering so if you prefer the G2 as a grinder but want to try the DLC burrs, that is an option.
Here in Austrlian the G2 sells for 90% of the cost of the V, so it has a small price advantage.
I’d be perfectly happy with either grinder. (I mean, if I was not grinder-obsessed and therefore only needed on grinder.)
