I don’t like problems and I really don’t like surprising amounts of them.

MediumRoastSteam

I had this down on my shortlist due to ease, speed of delivery and the fact I am not tied in if I decide to go down the plumbed water softener or Osmio route later.

Thanks for the tip though!

Thanks. I might try a cheap TDS reader from Amazon. Especially if I just get a Zero Water jug.

Then I’ll just need to read/learn how much to re-mineralise the Zero Water. Every day is a school day.

Purchased.

I saw on another thread (I think the one I started earlier in the year actually) that the recipe you use is

to add 0.1g or 0.08g sodium bicarbonate (I.e.: 100mg or 80mg) per litre of pure water.

Are you still doing that?

Seems like a faultless, hassle-free recipe.

JesmondJester - Still doing exactly that. I’m not that precise on numbers though… If it ends up being 120mg or 90mg per litre I don’t really worry too much.

I’ve been using potassium bicarbonate for the past year. I can’t tell the difference, but I might as well use it up since I got some.

For what’s worth, my tap water TDS is approx. 200ppm. I’ve been using the same filter since May 2023, and, last week, the TDS meter registered 1ppm on my “pure” water. The instructions say to change when the TDS meter reads 6ppm.

      What. A. Machine.

Delivered this lunchtime and I’ve had to stare at the box whilst working, cooking, caring for my wife before unboxing at 8pm. had enough time to run a load of water through it as per the manual. in the office tomorrow so first brew will be Thursday.

Frustrating to wait so long but really I blame Bella Barista for their excellent customer service. I paid on Sunday at 4.30 and it arrived today at 2. That’s after I’d pestered them with questions all weekend. Very well packaged and they deserve their excellent reputation

Going from the Baby Gaggia to this is something else. So pleased I stretched the budget - thanks Dave and everyone for your advice.

Congratulations on your purchase, I’m sure you’ll be delighted with it and the coffee. It’ll soon be Thursday.

      Well , it’s Thursday 🤷

      First shot, how’d it go ….. ?

Crap. But that’s what happens when you’ve been using your V60 for all coffee for 4 weeks and haven’t dialled in properly.

Second was much better although went too far in the other direction.

18g dose, 45 seconds to get 36 grams out. I stopped there! Haven’t had time to properly play (damn work getting in the way).

However, the pure joy of using the machine cannot be underestimated. The touch points, the action of the lever, the solidity of putting the portafilter in and out, the preinfusion, the shot timer, how quiet the rotary pump is.

If I’d pulled the above shot on the Baby, I don’t believe it would have tasted as good as it did. The experience of espresso left a lot to be desired even when a great shot was produced.

This was drinkable, despite being less than ideal.

There is so much to learn and experiment with but in a non-daunting way. As you can tell, I am quite excited so will stop rambling! ha!
