MediumRoastSteam not sure I’m missing something obvious (like special burr ?) but holy smoke that’s expensive. price in EU is 1195EUR and already increased compared to before (I think)

Yeah with with tax it’s currently about £1075 shipped directly from Mazzer in the UK. That’s with one burr. Not sure if the BB price includes both sets. Edit just checked and it says ‘I18D’ burr which I’m guessing is a typo for I189D. The one for darker roasts.

dfk41 brexit makes things more complicated but they should have gotten “dealer prices” which factor in the dealer cut etc. If you buy directly from Mazzer they will still have to deal with warranty for you

delta76 Au contraire……Brexit has nothing to do with it. Mazzer are selling straight to the public to make maximum profit whilst keeping the unit cost down. If you buy anything through a dealer the profit they need to make is bolted on top of the unit price they pay. You then deal with them whilst under warranty which if is UK based you deal with BB. Any problems you route through them. Brexit…..hadaway man!

dfk41 it does, pre-brexit goods can move quite freely within EU, so if you need to send it back for warranty just a matter of a shipping label. now there will be declaration and such.
I have no idea whatsoever with handling warranty from UK to Mazzer and back, but if it’s as simple as they cover shipping both ways, then it does not really make a lot of sense for buying from BB - unless it’s the “personal experience”.
the normal distribution network is, say Mazzer makes even at 600EUR (we are ignoring VAT and fees for simplicity). They sell it to end user at 900EUR for a margin of 50%. They can sell it to retailers like BB for 700EUR and then BB can sell it to end users at 900EUR and make a profit. BB can, occasionally, give a discount and sell it at 800EUR and still make a profit. That is oversimplification, but there is no way BB is buying from Mazzer for 900EUR and sell at 1100EUR.

Saw the new colours/wooden accents on a Host walk around YouTube. Difficult to see the colours in the snippet I saw but the wooden bits look pretty slick.

Nice that they’ve added some metal accents rather than just the regular wooden caps/lids.

delta76 Ha, too complicated matey! I was merely saying that the reason BB charge more for a Philos is that they offer the advantages of a dealer network and therefore have to make a profit. If you mark up at 50% you make a GP of roughly 33% which is the minimum amount a retailer needs to cover costs. In turn this does make buying from within the EU more difficult and complicated. This is why over the pond the customer base would rather on the whole buy non US based products through the dealer network than deal direct and get a discount. Pre Brexit I quite agree that it was easier for us in the UK but once again, Brexit is not to explain the price difference between Mazzer direct and BB in the UK!

I do think BB should have a better price for Philos, but well, if they think that’s fair and people buy from them :)

This is entirely speculation but BB have only just become a retailer for Mazzer so perhaps there isn’t the level of wholesale discount for such a new account with only one product.

I agree it seems quite high but BB are a great company and although I’ve not actually had anything I’ve bought from them go wrong, I’d certainly feel comfortable purchasing from them.

Having said that, Mazzer are also very good to deal with and have always been very helpful and quick to respond to my queries over the years.

Yeah!

I love that it’s still based on a family business after all these years. I also didn’t realise how much actual manufacturing they did of small components. I suppose in this day and age I wondered how much ‘made in’ actually meant ‘assembled in’ but looks like it’s still very much Made in Italy in all senses.
