Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

While I am very looking forward to reading an engineering-based review of the final product, I am really excited about the new burr sets, one seemingly a refinement of previous Mazzer designs; the second something really new from the firm. Something that should inhibit the uninformed criticisms of Mazzer often heard on other forums.

And of course the really big questions: Will the work in a Niche Duo? Would we want them to? Tom P there’s your cue ;-)

BrendaninBrooklyn remind me, do we know the burrs model number for the Philios or is that still a bit of a mystery? Mazzer have a lot of burrs in the 83mm format but are pretty light on the ground for 64mm. Looking forward to getting a set into the grinder lab and pitting them against other 64mm and 83mm. Might have to buy the wholed grinder for that though. Ah, life is so hard….

MattH seems like a nice guy but 10 days just isn’t enough time to review a grinder, how many coffees can you make in that time?!

Judging by his backdrop and other videos, he gets sent A LOT of machines to promote and has only recently has he branched into ‘reviews’. Either way this is more of a promo than review, and I don’t mean to disparage the guy just feels it needs said for any prospective buyers.

I also suspect his claims would be treated with more skepticism if he was one of the more well known YouTubers. Lots of vague language with feelings mixed with facts and marketing lines.

Either way a good tour of the features and general design but I wouldn’t let this influence decisions either way, especially since it’s all subject to change in the final model.

FadedFrontiers I take the internet with a pinch of salt 👍 but I like his camerawork and style. Of course we need to see the final Release build but good to see the prototype in the flesh. Its good to see Mazzer have continued to work on it since the Milan show. TBH I may just keep my allground or go for then super jolly pro v. I long realised the research and hunt for a new “thing” can be more fun than actually getting it !

Point is, we should hold this grinder and any reviews of it to the same standards as every other grinder (and reviewer.) Just because Mazzer is seen as a trusted family brand or whatever doesn’t change the fact that it is probably a paid for promo of a beta product.

Personally, I’m waiting for Tom’s tests or Dave’s, at least on the burrs. That said, this is an important product for Mazzer and is undoubtedly receiving all the internal resources required to make it a critical and commercial success.

Burrs are unobtanium at the moment, both here in Australia and Europe.

If Mazzers newer k151 series (83mm) are anything to go by, the new 64mm should be stellar.

dfk41 Does it matter? I’d say he is an “introducer”. As far as YT reviews go, this is certainly one of the better ones, much more so than any equivalent from LH or his kind (and I except JH from this category).

Is it as entirely thorough as the excellent engineering tear-down on one of the Niche units a while back? No, not even close. Is it enough to let the audience know this product is worth evaluating when it is released? Yes! And I believe that is all Mazzer hoped for.

Clearly much thought and time has gone into this grinder, and that I believe is the message. Not that it is perfect – he was clear about that, or that anyone should purchase it – he was clear about that too.

As I said, this is an important product for Mazzer, perhaps even a watershed one. Making certain the first third-party unveiling was not done by some baboon (that missing screw doesn’t matter; stalling is just overload protection; etc) is sensible.

I wish them very good fortune with this, however my next purchase is a Duo, regardless of reviews.

I’m buying it regardless! My current 64mm flat is a 9 year old Super Jolly so it’ll be an upgrade for me regardless of what the influencers think.

MWJB I’ve been keeping an eye out for this info, and so far have found nothing. Probably it will remain unknown until the first production units ship next month.
