Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

I know that phones exaggerate the noise level but, Jeepers, that sounds loud and harsh while grinding.
I have a feeling that I would prefer the workflow if the grinder was sideways on the bench.
As it is everything seems awkward to access withe the cup a long way under the body and the dial at the back.
Sideways would take up more room but make everything easier to get to.
Is anyone using theirs like that?
I’m not hating on it, just wondering.

JammyDodger thanks ! We got our son a bottle of Dior Sauvage a good while back which came with a leather pouch for the bottle. He wanted to throw it away and I thought it looks perfect fit for the niche cup. And so it did so it stayed. It occurs it fits the philos cup as well !

I am very happy with my Philos, I am grinding espresso at 20, the first mod I planned was to go stepless but the steps are soo minimal and smooth that I am happy to keep stepped. I have measured retention at 0.1g and a couple of flicks of the knocker is all that’s needed. I am really enjoying the clarity of the coffee now, I am glad I bought it. I did have to calibrate it when it arrived but that was easy enough, not tried filter yet so looking forward to that, it also seems to me to be a fairly quick grinder too.

MediumRoastSteam I think the Philos takes the first spot for me at the moment. I do like the fruity taste in coffee and feel the philos brings them out a bit more yet there’s less astringency so the cup is well rounded.

Amberale it was my worry as well, especially my grinder sits in a tight space between the machine and wall yet I found it not an issue at all. Possibly because the grind adjustment is so easy to turn and with the cup being magnetic you just place it underneath and it’s finds it perfect spot?

As per your reply and my pics above also , yes to me this is the correct orientation.

If you view some mazzer promo videos you will see they are on the fence and they are made from such an angle to suggest both orientations are good.

Obviously looking at posts on this thread both are good, jts just that one is better!!! Personal choice and available space will dictate . Its slightly bigger than expected. All in all the price point is great for the build and expected longevity.

Not sure how legal the price point is for the uk companies advertising it or is that the markup on everything retail. Absolute shocker that tou can pay 1500 UK for it if you are not careful. And 880 direct from the manufacturer.

Not trying to upset anyone as i assume everyone on here has purchased direct.

As for sound and workflows i will do a quick video later showing this and the duo.

Philos is quieter than duo without beans.

Philos is ever so slightly louder whilst grinding. Not painfully so!!

Ive claimed the philos and the duo will be for decaf, so far. Not compared yet 😎😜

Yeah I know everyone’s hearing is different but it’s quieter than the Duo for me. I’m basing this on the most scientifically accurate measure of all; my wife noticing…

I can see why the rear adjuster seems awkward, I was sceptical, but it’s one of those things in practice that’s fine. The position of your hand is effectively like turning a volume dial on a hifi or similar, you sort of adjust it from the edge rather than reaching round the back.

Unless you’re 4’ tall you’re not going to have issues seeing the setting.

I suppose you could use it turned sideways but remember in the UK our kitchens are about the size of a closet in AUS/US terms so it’s less feasible. You’d have to have the adjuster on the right as the power switch and gate lever would be on the ‘front’ then.

Thinking about it, as I just made a cuppa, the only thing I would change is the power switch to the front. This is most likely only issue for me as it’s a tight space and I really need to reach to turn on and off.

Funnily enough I was just thinking the same.

I know with ‘commercial’ grinders there are requirements for switches (not easy to accidentally activate etc) and they’re often on the side so this might be a factor.

Not that it makes it any less awkward.

Mine was about £900 landed.

Versus the Duo- for me I was never a huge fan of how the Niche looks but gave it a try for switching between filter/espresso. Ultimately although it’s a brilliant grinder, I wasn’t hugely impressed with the filter from it and struggled with espresso shots immediately after filter ones.

I also prefer the balance of body/clarity from 64mm burrs.

If you’re only using it for espresso, I don’t know if you’d see huge improvements in the cup on your SSP based grinder. I can’t say for sure as I’ve never tried the SSP burrs.

Edit: I noticed the Mazzer page is down. They might’ve sold out.
