I suspect that there are one or two secret pod users on here, so why not talk about it? My son has just bought one of these, less than 2 months old with a milk cafetiere and 100 or so pods

This is the machine and the milk thingy in action.

The Grind pods it came with are not too bad, but again, I would appreciate any suggestions

I mostly stick to Illy red, or intenso, both at 40ml output. Sometimes Lavazza Oro at 25ml output.

I gave up on specialty and a lot of independent pods due to lack of consistency and/or lots of grounds leaking into the system.

We have had an Opal One pod machine for a couple of years which doesn’t get much use nowadays. Have tried a few speciality roasters for pods but nobody comes close to Colonna (at least from the ones I’ve tried). They have a few options at a time including some fantastic ‘rare’ options if you’re a fan of lighter but not too underdeveloped roasts. I would say, they get a bit lost in milk though of that’s your preference. I stick to an espresso (~25mL) or longer black (80-90 mL) drinks…. The latter coming at just about filter strength. The wife did like the Colonna decaf in milk though.

The Opal One gets round the issues you mention with grounds getting into the system @MWJB. See Hoffman’s recent video explaining this:

So does using better constructed pods. I don’t have a Nespresso machine anymore, but I’m happy to take my preferred pods to friends & relatives who do have them, so I can just use them on the standard 25/40ml settings (not wanting to be the nerd who turns up & resets their kit for shots they don’t want).

I’ve used them on holiday a few times if the property has a pod machine, I found one of the Co-op own brand pods to be quite nice but can’t remember exactly what it was!
