I’ll be interested to know what you think of this 48/65mm conical from Option O.

Seems to fit between their Mini and P64. Pricing to be announced.

I guess the questions are, does it stall and does it have a power brick? I’m not a big fan of the look of it and I’m not sure it’s doing anything the Zero can’t already do.

Dusk well different burr sets for a start. Not necessarily better, we will have to wait and see. But you raise a valid point in relation to the established 63mm conical player, the Niche.

We have to see pricing but my educated guess is that they want to create an option for people who feel compelled to own a Lagom (public perception of quality, precision engineering, prestige) but who don’t want the Mini and find the P64 a bit pricey. Based on that I’d expect pricing to be mid point between the Mini and P64.

I love trying new grinders but there is nothing about this offering that has me wanting one on my bench.

Still, it’s a Lagom and rightly or wrongly some people will buy it simply because of that fact alone.

They certainly have a knack for designing strange looking grinders. I used to think that the P64 was unusual, but the P100 and later 01 and now the Casa, make the P64 look decidedly mainstream.

I think you’ve probably hit the nail on the head with people wanting a Lagom. There’s so much coffee equipment available that broadly does the same thing that you usually need to innovate to get ahead. Obviously there are a few brands that are seen as premium that probably don’t have to try so hard and people will still buy it.

Yeah I’d say the p64 is the best looking, the rest are a bit odd to me

Cuprajake The P-100 and 01 have a very striking Star Trek design to them. I’m sure they look nicer in person but I’d be interested to know if a product designer has designed them..?

I haven’t seen many threads about modifying the P64 to make it work to spec.
It might cost a bit but it works pretty much out of the box, doesn’t stall, is stupid quiet and while the design is a bit funky it is that way for a reason.
Enough so that it might have been copied, a lot.
Mine is three years old and going strong(touch wood) 😊

I drive a Skoda which probably says something about me! I don’t mind spending money on certain things but sometimes certain things are good enough and don’t need to cost a lot

I may be older than you at 62 but I busted my rrrs in front of a radar screen 24/7/365 for over three decades so that I could afford the nicer things in self-funded retirement.
I don’t spend money on holidays, have no mortgage and no children.
Why would I want to put up with a cheap replica that needs to be modified to almost achieve a similar result?

For the 98mm grinder market unfortunately the 01 seems to be the cheapest choice that is currently available except for perhaps the ek43 and that grinder isnt deskgned for single dosing. So the 01 or the p100 are the only choices if one wants the cheapest 98mm grinder with good alignment designed into the equation.

I am probably in the minority, but I think the design is really interesting! I imagine this grinder is mainly designed to make up for some of the shortcomings people had with the mini, such as the lack of numbers on the grind adjustment dial, weak motor and the power brick/plug.

The different burr sizes are a bit of an odd decision, though I do wonder if one burr will trend towards lighter roasts and the other larger burr maybe a more medium/dark roast? If the price is right (about £450-550) I’m willing to take a punt on it.

Hello, This looks an interesting grinder. I am Looking for my First grinder, drinking only espresso drinks. Would this be a good choice and worth the wait?

Basically I am between the below:

DF54 (270 €)

DF64 Gen 2 ( Stainless steal burrs) (420€)
Lagom Casa (Conical, first price 389USD not sure of the final price with shipping around 70-80$)
Eureka Zero/Silenzio/Specialita or other SD model (400-440€ for specialita)

I have contacted Option-O for the burr options and they mentioned the below:

The main advantage of the 65mm burrs is that they will be faster than the 48mm burrs to grind for espresso. We’re also aiming for the 65mm burrs to be slightly more espresso focused, but it is still able to do filter grind.

Coffee_morph Please do not take this as trying to put you off because I am not. There is a whole lot of craft to learn in the coffee hobby and without the basics then the which grinder question is almost irrelevant. What machine are you pairing it to? What basket size and tamper….give us a bit more info matey. The question you ask will always just produce other members opinions, and whilst they are valid, they are not necessarily the answer you seek

dfk41 Hello, thanks for your reply. I have got myself familiar with the process and variables in the espresso and grinders. I currently have a Delonghi Dedica EC680, but i would like to choose the grinder with future plans in mind like i dont want to limit my purchase cz of the machine. Its a 51mm basket, i have all the accessories ready, non presurized basket, self leveling tamper, WDT, RDT, puck screen, puck paper filters. So i am missing the grinder now :) My budget is around 500-600Euros max with delivery, i am based in EU.

As other members in the house will use the grinder/machine i need to a simple workflow for others, but still myself will go through the whole espresso perp process. I am looking for a grinder that would have Good consistency, not being too messy, and grind espresso for well balanced shot, sweet, body, drinking mostly neat espresso for myself, americano, over ice when its hot and milky drinks for others.
