Rocket R58 problem - frozen PID?

Hello all. I’ve got an issue with my Rocket R58 machine. The PID display shows nonsense (see picture) and I can’t get into any menus to change settings. The machine itself is running fine - both steam and brew boilers reach temp and I can pull shots.

I’ve changed the display module and even changed the PID ‘brain box’. I get the same errors even after swapping out these components. Has anyone had a similar problem and was able to resolve? Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

I changed the connecting cable that goes from the PID display to the bottom of the machine (the spiral springy one). The thing I haven’t tried yet is changing the ribbon cable that connects on to the ‘brain’ and ends with the serial port that the springy cord connects to.

Have the part coming a Thursday so will swap it out then. If it’s not that then I’m stumped.

That’s the one I think might be either loose, or faulty

DavecUK I’ll report back when I’ve exchanged it. I don’t think it’s loose. I’ve been into the brain box and reseated it. It may be damaged but there’s no obvious signs.

Looks like it was the ribbon wire. I swapped it out and the display is now showing sensible info and I can access menus. The only thing is I have had to install the new ribbon cable so it pokes out the back of the machine. I can’t remove the original from the machine body. Anybody know how to remove the blue bit in this picture? Looks like it may be riveted on?

Drill out the rivet heads and use nuts, bolts and washers. Use a drill that’s slightly large and frill the heads until they fall off….don’t try and drill through them!

DavecUK Sounds like a pain! Not the best design of you need to drill out bits to exchange! Well thanks for the advice, I will give it a go at the weekend when I have a bit of time dedicate to it 👍
