T64 Grinder From Bella Barista

My machine has grind settings between 0 and 90 When switching the grind setting is it best practice to do it when the machine is off? Does it matter if doing it when machine is on or not?

I’m gonna ask some basic questions here which i’m sure will clear up any confusion on my end. Based on my previous comments my grind settings range is 0-90 and I have the SSP HU red speed burrs. There’s multiple factors at play including preference. But for espresso, what setting do you all use? And while i wait for my new ACS Minima to ship I have a hario switch so if any of you use this grinder for pour over what setting do you use or recommend?

gregE for medium/dark roasts, my setting is around 15 but adjust slightly for different beans, but that’s my starting point.

Have the Bella grinder with SSP burrs for reference

gregE I’m around 10-15 for lighter-medium espresso beans (minima + flow control), and don’t use it for filter often but would start around the 40 mark.

The basket will also affect grind settings. I use a VST and typically find I need to grind in the 5-8 range

I’ve just managed to pick one of these up on eBay. Wonder if it’s anyone’s on this forum?

I’ve got a varia vs3 so hoping this will compliment and maybe last longer than the version 1 motor did for my varia. It’s now running the version 2 motor and all seems good. Felt like this was a decent price and worth a punt. It’s the variable model.

Could well be, check the burrs, if they are genuine SSP burrs inside and have a speed control knob on the left, then it will most likely have been from someone on here. They are an excellent grinder.

I’ve finally managed to get this into the house (I had to convince my wife that getting another grinder was essential to my well being).

I’m just giving it a clean and a look over before trying it out for the first time later.

Some points…

300w motor.
Variable speed - when turned on the knob indicated 900-1900.
The box has specs indicated on the outside including tick boxes for type of burrs included. These have not been ticked so I assume stock burrs unless anyone on the forum can tell different from the pics. The seller did say they were stock so assume that’s the case. I am happy regardless as I think I got a good deal.
Looks to be a decent condition (needs a clean to get some of the old coffee out of the usual places). There is a scratch on the adjustment ring that I was aware of. At some point I will probably sand and respray if it ends up being front and centre.
It seems to be stepped rather than stepless. There is a noticeable click when adjusting. Small steps and plenty of them but not stepless. @DavecUK I read your orginal posts and I think you mentioned the one you had for testing was similar? I read that you removed the pin which changed it to stepless. Did that work well for you after the fact? I might do the same, was it a case of just removing the pin with a pair of pliers? I will use it as is for now.

@DavecUK - I saw in an earlier post you mentioned that you used the variable speed instead of the bellows to ensure less retention. I prefer the look without bellows, did you increase the speed once most of the grinds were out or decrease? I would like to try this so the bellows don’t have to be used - thanks.

I’m going to have a play this afternoon with it and will report back. Any other pointers or things to check please feel free to let me know.

But for £220 you should get plenty of use out of it .

Adrianmsmith I’ll report back once it arrives and I’ve been able to check out the burrs for myself. The seller seems to be decent from communications. We shall see!

Imo even with the stock non-ssp burrs it’s a good price, they get covered here and @odor4fun can also advise

I’ve seen the grinder stocked in the UK from a roaster I’ve not used before, just stumbled across it with a UK only google search when I was looking for one, it mentions an older burr carrier though that doesn’t fit SSP which would be an issue for some:

thetravdog I thought two things that made the BB deal excellent, were the addition of SSP burrs and the variable speed, neither of which the link you posted seem to have. Instead they bollox on about bellows being ‘Special’….personally I would just treat it like any other puff piece being used to promote something they are selling.
