For sale: Rocket Macinatore Fausto Grinder - £250

Due to a recent upgrade I’m selling my Rocket Macinatore Fausto Grinder. I’ve owned this from new - purchased from Bella Barista in 2016 (I still have the receipt). The grinder has 65mm burrs, which I replaced about 18 months ago. It’s not heavily used - on average I grind 3-4 double shots a day. The front panel was replaced along with the burrs, as one of the LEDs was getting a bit dim.

The grinder is in fully working order and in overall excellent condition. There are a few small marks (pitting?) on the right hand side of the grinder. The rubber around the upper edge of the front of the portafilter holder is a bit worn, but doesn’t affect the usage of the grinder at all. I also have the round foot plate (not pictured) which still has it’s protective film on as I’ve never used it.

The grinder has been well maintained and regularly cleaned - it’s really quick and easy to whip the top burr off the grinder to clean the burrs and chamber, and as with Eureka grinders this doesn’t affect the grind settings at all.

Unfortunately I don’t have the original packaging, and it’s a hefty grinder, so I really don’t want to ship it with a courier. Collection would be from the Reading area.

I’m asking £250 for the grinder - an absolute bargain price for such a great grinder !!!

Very interesting. How would it compare to a standard 50mm Eureka Mignon with regards to retention and grind quality?

Hi, funnily enough it was a Eureka Mignon I upgraded from to the Rocket so I have lots of experience with that grinder as well. It’s a much, much better grinder.

In fact I remember being quite suprised when I upgraded to the Rocket that there was a definite improvement in the grind quality and the flavour in the cup. Here is what I wrote in a different forum after a couple of weeks of use in a sort of mini-review:

“- Grind Quality. Seems very good - with very little if any clumping. Much to my amazement I can taste what I would describe as a fuller/rounder flavour in the cup !”

I have never really bothered to try and measure retention. When cleaning there can be a bit of a build up around the chamber exit in front of the clump crusher. But it’s never bothered me.

Yes I’d be very interested in your review if that’s ok with you to share.

I am happy enough with my Eureka but this looks rather interesting as a potential upgrade? I now use the EM Facile how it is supposed to be used after a spell of trying to use it to single dose. I’m not a fan of bellows and blowing fines everywhere and causing blockages at the chute in the process.

I have been quietly contemplating holding out for a Niche Zero, but Ill do some research over the coming day or so about this grinder.

I am travelling to Southampton this weekend from Bristol area, staying until the following weekend, so I could swing by Reading en route home should this be where I want to go.

Hi again. here is what I wrote (when I refer to my previous grinder that was a standard 50mm Mignon:

"Hi all,

having used my Rocket Fausto for a week now I thought I would share my experiences.

Firstly I went to Bella Barista with the intention of looking at the black version, but came back with the chrome version. To my eyes this looked better next to BB’s ECM Barista which is what I have. See pic at the end.

Now to the important bits:

Grind Quality. Seems very good - with very little if any clumping. Much to my amazement I can taste what I would describe as a fuller/rounder flavour in the cup !
Grind Adjustability. Excellent which is to be expected as this is the Eureka Stepless system. Very easy to dial in the grinder.
Controls. Once the times are adjusted accordingly the single/double dose buttons work great. One thing I really like is at the end of the dose the light continues flashing for a while during which time you can add top-ups by pressing the button briefly until you get the desired weight. Also, if you press the button during the dose it stops - when you can then distribute the grinds in the basket should you wish, and then when the button is pressed again the dose continues until the end of the total time set. Nice.
Mess. This grinder is much less messy than my old grinder, or the Zenith I have used at BB. With careful placement of the portafilter in the fork, you can dose with little or no grinds escaping. I have the fork set about as high as it will go so close to the funnel which helps I think. Very wife friendly.
Footprint. The grinder has a much neater footprint than the Zenith, the internals around which it seem it’s built around. Nice to see them together at Bella Barista.

A couple on not so good points.

There was no user manual in the box as shipped from Rocket (we unpacked and tested the grinder while I was there). BB sent me a pdf version but the manual is very poorly written and doesn’t explain the ability to top up after the dose has finished for example. Also, during my first afternoon with the grinder I managed to lock the controls and it took me a while to fathom what I had done (mainly due to the absence of the manual).
The hopper is quite a loose fit in the neck of the grinder. You can secure it with a screw but I prefer not to do that for fast/frequent hopper removal. This means you need to hold the hopper while removing the lid as it’s quite a tight fit. It’s no big deal but I guess I’m just used to just removing the lid with one hand with the beans in the other ready to go in the hopper.

Other than these very minor niggles I think this is a great grinder and I’m really please with it !"

As you may have seen I first advertised the grinder at £300 - which in itself is a great price. However, I will reluctantly accept £225 but no less. A new Espresso machine needs a great grinder, and I very much doubt you will find anything better at this price !
