I tend to drink blends when making espresso based drinks. The reason for this is that I never appreciate the tasting notes of single origin beans. But, I want that to change, having bought a Technivorm Moccamaster that makes around 300 mls a go. I prefer medium/plus roasts so my question is, do I start to try and educate my tastebuds when using the One Cup by trying SO, or do I continue to batter them?

It makes total sense to use blends especially for milk based espresso drinks, it’s so hard to pick out specific notes or fully appreciate them when diluting the coffee.
For straight filter brews I imagine you’ll notice the SO differences quite quickly, I doubt you’ll need much training as it’ll be quite apparent once you get it dialled in. It’s certainly worth a go, if you don’t think it’s worth the extra price then you can always revert back.
You’ve tried many brewers & brew methods, what makes you think the Technivorm is going to change anything?
A light to medium (more to medium roast by my reckoning) that I would recommend for brewed is this one:
There’s also a purple fruits version if black plum/grape & occasional hint of shoue polish (but not in a bad way)?

MWJB I do not think the Technivorm is going to do anything really different. I bought it because I always drink black coffee at breakfast, and fancied something that did not require a lot of technique and made a longer drink than I usually get. I like the convenience of its process. I have occasionally had brewed coffee that I really enjoyed. Rave did a whoosh Whoosh in January 2020 that was like drinking pineapple cubes……@Systeic will confirm…….and I am much more likely to get something of quality from an SO than a blend (I hope!)
I have ordered some of the purple fruits variety….will report back Mark. Is it true that brewed coffee does not require then beans to rest like espresso needs?
I don’t think you need to pick out specific flavour characteristics or tasting notes. Buy blends or buy SO, if you enjoy it then you win. I rarely buy the same coffee twice because i like the variety, can i taste anything written on the bag, usually not but if I’ve enjoyed my cup of coffee then I’m perfectly happy.
I bought a 500gm bag of this coffee, and the more of it I drink the less impressed I am with the taste! It started off well. Initially the only taste that came though, was the promised black plums but as I worked through the bag, that taste has changed in a peculiar way. I have not had to adjust the grind or dose as it still draws down at a time I am happy with. I gave a guest a brew last night and he took two sips and left it! That said, I have ordered some Wush Wush from them plus this 3 bag bundle:
Now I have read it again it says for espresso……LOL. I must pay more attention!

Change the grind based on the taste, not the time. If the taste has changed in a way you are not happy with, how can you be happy with the time?
MWJB Cheers mark, thats one for tomorrow!
Spot on, I tightened the grind a couple of notches and the plums came back! I may need to go a little further though. It is the first time I have dedicated a grinder to brewed coffee but it really makes life easier!
My next venture, in a month or so, is to find a bean oozing with chocolate notes!
