DavecUK I think going nuclear power requires it to be government owned and only energy we export priced at world market prices. Energy for UK needs should be controlled, as it’s the UK people paying for and owning the reactors. So a non profit price for UK use.
I also believe HS2 is a crock, won’t deliver for another 25 years, and by then no one will care about how fast it is. Use the 150-200 billion HS2 will cost for other things.
The only postve sign I can see is a SLOW dawning on politicians that too much globalism isn’t a bright idea and that “security” is a real concern be it energy security, food security, 5G security or simple on-shore menufacturing, like the US suddenly noticing that the vast bulk of silicon fab plants, that run everything from gaming graphics card for your PC or gaming console, to cars, to computerised manufacturing or indusrial process systems to aircraft flight systems are made in, or a few miles offshore of China. Woops.
But it is finalling dawning on politicians that things like food and energy security are kinda basic to our future.
So yeah, I agree, it’s going to be hard to avoid nuclear if we are to dump fossil fuels, and having those UK public-owned and controlled is a GOOD THING.
Next, these geniuses in government will work out that selling off everything from the country’s family heirlooms to the home you live in to overseas investors isn’t bright, and is a good way to end up homeless and broke. I hope they aren’t realising it too late to do anything about it, but I have a nasty feeling …. :(
