CoffeePhilE Going back to energy prices…this has been a perfect storm brewing for 40+ years. It’s happening in key sectors such as energy, manufacture, utilities, transportation and communication. Somehow we allowed core things to slip from British ownership to foreign ownership. Certain industries that should be nationally owned to become for profit corporates. I remember when BT was a worldwide successful communications company. Two things put paid to that. The governments desperation to try and break it up because it was “too big” and a number of major board appointments that were appalling with people who drove the company into the ground. While all this happened, the British people literally cheered??
Energy is a prime example, where nothing has been done to secure both supply and prices in line with the countries needs for 40 years. It has never made any difference which party is in power. In fact one wonders if the Civil service itself are more responsible than respective governments. Respective governments and the civil service were so eager to please they rolled over with their tongues out for pretty much everyone except the British people…..
Even now, they are still pushing the green agenda (which doesn’t actually produce cheap electricity does it), HS2, demise of petrol and diesel cars and other stupid projects. Plus still concreting in fracking wells! Absolutely nuts….and they talk about power cuts and power rationing. How stupid it is defies comprehension. For the last 6 months we have been like a rabbit in the headlights of this energy crisis, when an effort of WW2 proportions was (and still is) needed. Immediate actions should be:
- Stop HS2 (saving probably 200 billion in the long run to pay for all this and freeing up the workforce)
- Mobilise the workforce to frack, reopen any coal mines it can and anything in the north sea. Nationalising/regulating what we can.
- Have a national planning process of 4 weeks to identify 10 new nuclear sites, with clearing levelling and basic infrastructure building to begin in October. Nuclear Skilled construction to begin before Christmas. All reactors UK owned and not for profit, Reactor completion timescales to be 3-5 years, no slippage whatsoever. Get some of the best in the world to run these projects…not Dido Harding.
- No more green subsidies and no more windmills and grid solar (home solar, fine).
- Get rid of net Zero 2050 and everything that goes with it…e.g. petrol car ban, gas boiler ban etc.. etc..
- Get rid of all ULEZ zones (they didn’t do much good anyway)
- Insulate that which isn’t insulated, replace old non condensing gas boilers, night storage oil fired etc (new gas pipes), instead of the stupid 6K heat pump grant, which is just pumping up profits, and remove VAT from all of these energy efficiency products
- Stop all government projects budget overrun, get a price and make them stick to it!
How hard can this flipping well be.
