I’ve been wondering, how thick do they normally coat burrs? Can’t really be too much as it’ll just ‘dull’ the edges? Does the coating ever chip after x kgs? If they use physical vapour deposition it must be expensive? But China is seemingly producing cheap coated burrs these days.

    Which is why I recommended BB sell the T64 with SSP burrs at the beginning and always keep it as an option.

        This is something I’ve always been on the fence about. When the T64 came out, I was wondering whether it wouldn’t be simpler to have choices of burrs at the point of sale: so one could choose the manufacturer standard burrs or SSP burrs on something else. For instance… I just checked Mazzer’s site and the burr choice for the Philos (including the l200 burrs everyone seems to be enjoying) cost £85 or so (https://shop.mazzer.com/en-gb/collections/burrs), keeping the price of the grinder down for hose who want to install their own burrs. SSP burrs are twice that price, maybe more (e.g.: https://bellabarista.co.uk/products/64mm-ssp-burr-set-multi-purpose-red-speed - I know they are not HU burrs but gives an idea of SSP burrs of that size).

          Please note that this set of burrs is not compatible with other Mazzer grinders.

            Can’t be much can it, especially if the normal Mazzer 64mm burrs would fit? Perhaps a whiff of bulls droppings around the statement.

              Could it be the direction the burrs spin? Similar to the kafatek?

              From what they say it’s to do with requiring the auger or prebreaker. Maybe the shape of the 1200 doesn’t like full beans entering directly??

              I’m probably talking bull .but just in case they are not….??.!!
