I’m wondering about descaling the brew boiler and having read Daves’ manual I’m intrigued with “the hard method”.

This advocates using a large syringe to evacute the boiler of water and later the descaler, has anyone done this and can you recommend a syringe to carry out the proceedure.

Thanks Dave, will the trick be to shorten the tube so it just goes to the bottom of the boiler.

Could the same “hard method” be applied to the steam boiler, by removing say the steam probe ?

Eyedee you don’t need to, just heat up, switch off and open the hot water tap to drain the boiler. Descaler in tank, switch on and it refills the steam boiler with descaler.

I did the descale successfully and it brought up another point, when unscrewing the sensor the cables are dangerously near to being twisted that much that damage can occur.

In future I think the way forward will be to cut the cables and join them with something like 3amp strip connectors then when the sensor has to be removed the joint can be split so no twisting will occur. I wonder if there is any other product suitable?

Eyedee About 12 cm down the sensor cable, there’s a black joining piece. If you simply pull that joint apart, you can then unscrew the centre safely without twisting. of wires.

Thanks Dave, I had looked for a connection but unfortunately it was concealed behind a ribbon cable, knowing it was there made me look a little closer.
