Kafatek MC4 vs MC5 vs MC6

Hello all! My first post here and I wanted to post here as I would like to hear opinions from whoever has owned those grinders and can share an unbiased view of what your thoughts are.

Lest begin that I grind mostly medium roast and some lighter medium roast. Never dark, Never light.

I have had the MC4 for quite some time (2 years) and shortly after the MC5 with Kones where announced.

I wanted to bring less bitter and punch that you get usually from Conicals and after 2 years I decided maybe I will upgrade to the Kones but I did not wanted to mess with changing the burrs as the carriers from MC4 -> MC5 changed leaving reports of some minor retention in the grinder (not huge deal)

I currently have an Order for MC6 in September directly from Denis.

I also found someone selling an Used MC5 which will be a better price than a new MC6

Few things I am not familiar and curious if it’s worth waiting for the MC6

MC6 comes with 2nd version of Shourikone anyone has compared first Kones vs Kones2?
Thacker in the MC6 I’m seeing this more of fidget usage but the bellow does great.
RPM? Is this worth it for my type of roast?

MC6 full black will be about 2800+ Shipping

MC5 Used (22 November) I am expecting to possibly pay 1700-1800 shipped to me.

Might be able to see MC4 or even keep it for fun and experiment between the two.

Sidedust I’ve not used any Monolith conical, but I have significant experience of conical grinders. I suspect the changes will be quite nuanced between the various monolith versions. I do have a Kafatek Flat Max 2 with Shurikones and I think you might well enjoy that grinder quite a lot. My roast preference is much the same as yours.

I do consider the FM2 currently to be one of the best grinders you can buy…certainly way better than the EG1 which I have used, I have quite a lot of grinders at home (including weber Key and Lagom P100) and the FM2 is better than any of them!

I only really use the FM2 at 400 rpm, the variable speed is a waste of time.

I have thought about that. I have seeing many comparativos between the two MC5+ and MAX2 and many can’t tell much of the difference between the two.

I think the Kones brought to the taste that extra clarity that people were craving out of a Conical without leaving Body behind. Which is another thing I care about a lot. A decent body (not syrupy) but enough body so it doesn’t feels like I am drinking filter (which I dislike)

I did was around the idea of going MAX 2 with SLM and it’s just a flag ship but then again I am looking at spending nearly 4k for one. ☝️

I wanted to maybe keep MC4 and the. Have a MAX 2 SLM but seems a bit much.
