49mm better than 58mm?

Its just this project does not come over as the best thought through to completion on kickstarter and the guy does not seem to be a manufacturer, just a middle man.

Not saying it will not happen. In just cautious.

Not a lot of cash to lose though for anyone backing it.

i always tend to move to an ims comp basket, i have various high flow and straight wall baskets just like ims stuff

The IMS baskets tend to flow quite fast also. I ended up with some waisted baskets, which gave me a bit more body and tamed the acidic edge a bit better, and then found the smaller groups are better suited to the flavor, texture/body profiles I prefer at the caffeine doses I want to expose myself to.

agree but not as quick as vst for me, they have a rounded bottom also

Had them both, found they extracted a bit too much for my liking. End up with a lot of coffees you can’t enjoy, when the choice of basket could be to blame, heh.

i tried the pesado a few times but found it way too much faff, the puck gets stuck in there like rock!!!

yes, those are difficult to knock out. With a filter paper at the bottom, it’s a lot easier, but then that introduces its own characteristics to the shot also. Some coffees were better with it, and some benefitted without.

yeah, found you really needed the paper sandwich though or the basket clogged lol

ive got another high flow, cant remember the name, then i did have a wafo, id like to try a sworks but not paying the $$$ lol

Cuprajake If I’d have known you were interested, I’d have slung one your way for free before I sold the machine. Wouldn’t have hurt the package, cos there was so much there. As a seller, I just couldn’t be bothered to list it all and deal with the hassle of selling and shipping to many individuals. FWIW, I found the regular flow SWorks better than the high-flow in 58mm. The regular has a slightly higher flow rate than the Unifilter.

Certain other forums are not so forgiving.

So long as the link is part of a discussion its all good.

Adrianmsmith Lol, it’s not my Kickstarter, I found it on YouTube where I subscribe to a number of coffee related sites and the algorithm popped it into my ‘recommended’ viewing list.

Notwithstanding the reservations about the product, I think I might give it a go. All said and done, at the price it’s less than a few beers on a night out (or 2 pints for those in London) :)

I’m curious with the shot time for 49mm step down. Is it supposed to be same shot time as 58mm according to Lance’s graph with bed depth comparison.

16g 49mm is the same depth as 22.5g 58mm

Is it supposed to be the same shot time , or is 49mm longer

dfk41 the 49mm sworksdesign step down basket. The one Lance uses in his videos. He done comparisons between 58mm but never mentioned anything about shot times whether they were the same, slower , faster. This is just a guide.

I believe it is due to fulfil very shortly when they will be come available to the open market thereafter

As when a recipe for a particular beans states 28-30 seconds 1:2 ratio etc. Is that the same recipe for 49mm or is 49mm quicker or slower

drdre89 It was mulling over the Sworks one that made me find the alternate. Not having played with one, I would have thought a narrower, deeper basket would lend itself to a longer pre-infusion to more thoroughly saturate the puck. Once fully saturated when pressure is applied then I would expect the shot to pour faster…..but I may well be wrong!

depends on the coffee and what you’re after, ive always thought that a quicker infusion is better,

ie if you have a 50s infusion the top of the grounds are over extracted and the bottom under, were as a quicker infusion hits the whole puck near at once, its why i like the evo lever
