Hi, I recently started trying/drinking more espresso shots/americano rather than usual go to flatties. I seem to just can’t get on well with straight shots they taste not pleasant and weirdly sour. So I decided to play with temp, when using Dave’s settings and EC is 10 when you put LCC to 100 degrees a flash of steamy boiling water is expected from group head right at least first couple seconds. I even brought it up to 105 degrees which is the max I still get no boiling water from group head. Any of the Elizabeth owners can try and report back please.

When I try 103 degrees on the screen and this means 113 degrees in the boiler I got a drinkable shot. Don’t have much beans left so didn’t want to play with it further.

My ratio is usually 1:3 - 1:3.5

Inspector - Interesting. I take you let the machine warm up for 20 minutes at least?

If it tastes good, then so be it, I suppose. Unless you have a more scientific way of checking, this will be something hard to talk about.

This is a “test”… Maybe using an IR thermometre, or a temp strip, I wonder what temperature reading it would give if that’s measure on the outside of the boiler (open the top of the machine) - which is copper? If copper is a very good conductor of heat, then the difference shouldn’t be significant?

(PS: I’m clueless in this area, just suggestion potential possibilities)

MediumRoastSteam Hi yes machine is up to temp and I always wait over 20mins. Good shout but I don’t have any of that equipment. Do you get steam from group head if you bring your temp to 100?

If anything I’d suggest to reset all the settings and try again. I sold my LE last year but I rarely go over 95*C unless for very light roast

delta76 ok I realised this reset was different to the one I did previously and I believe it has sorted the issue. So thumbs up for that.

I haven’t applied Dave’s settings as yet but now with factory settings when machine stabilises I got a flashy/steamy water from grouphead at 102C degrees. I know I can change offset etc.. but I will leave it as it is, because I had a very tasty shot of (medium roasted) espresso at 92C, which was previously a sour mess as a straight shot.

Inspector done it this morning. At 100C on the LLC, with DaveC’s settings, no signs of flashing boiling water coming through. 🤷‍♂️

MediumRoastSteam Thanks for trying this. Maybe your one will do it at 102C like mine did.

Today i have tried another beans which were in the freezer since over 6 months or so, 16in 36 out 23 seconds and no sign of any sourness. So for now I am not changing any setting and enjoying tasty espressos/americanos :)
