So narrowed it down to Nurri or Vostok 1g really not sure Nurri is £1800 within budget , then later in year maybe a Odyssey Argos for a little Lever .

Jony Remember, Nurri sell through a dealer network, bumping the price up to the consumer by 30 to 50%. I wonder who actually designed nthe new Nurri as I understand engineering is not his strong point, but sales are. Can you post a link to the new Nurri Jony? I have not seen it but am quite happy to eat my words

I don’t think it’s right nor fair to suggest that antonio nurri is better at sales than he is at design. If you are implying that the nurri leva was designed by someone else outside the nurri company, that is not correct either AFAIK. Nurri is rightly proud of his machine being listed for recognition in the Compasso D Oro design awards for design excellence in italian made products when it was first introduced, and so he should be as the Nurri leva is stunning design wise.

As far as i know, the nurri machine was designed by Antonio himself with a lot of design cues from his life long love of italian cars, though i am sure the details of the final design had a lot of input from his team particularly in making the machine more stable despite the force exerted on the handle by the user.

As for being sold through a dealer network, that is the case for most espresso machines so nothing unusual about that. Furthermore the additional premium brings with it the in country technical and maintenance support from the dealer, which most buyers of espresso machines value.

What is a non lever nurri? I thought the query was about the L type leva since the OP mentioned the vostok as the alternative he was considering.

If he was talking about the Nurri R type pump machine, yes I have seen it and used it in the dealer showroom. The initial model is a basic version that is meant to be a machine that one can walk up to and operate easily to make espresso so it has little in the way of adjustment options. There is an upcoming double boiler version that is in the pipeline as well as a pressure profile modelling version that is also being developed.

Imo both acs and nurri are very small scale manufacturers and with that comes certain pitfalls.

Nurri may have a tad more back up through dealers but from what I’ve seen stuff still gets missed or takes time

Just have to be prepared to accept that.

Well lets put it this way. I am sure that if some acs owners saw someone on a forum suggesting acs doesn’t know how to design their machines as well as they know how to market them etc, there would be an acs owner who would come along to post to correct that false accusation. And that would be absolutely correct for them to do so because it is quite an offensive suggestion…
On dealer networks not being perfect, sure mistakes and breakdowns happen and that’s the nature of products no matter how good they are in the real world. But at least a nurri machine owner has not only support from the dealer but he can also liaise with the manufacturer as well. And the dealer being in the same country has every legal and reputational motivation to make sure his customer is properly supported and this has been borne out among nurri dealers AFAIK so far, and nurri dealers worldwide have tended to be among the well regarded coffee equipment dealers of their respective countries.

Im not sure what country you are in , but its far easier in the UK to deal with ACS direct in italy than it is to even try to deal with Bella Barista less than 50 miles away .

Luckily i guess i couldn’t even get MrM to even email me back and the guy sat on the next desk to him trying to get his attention said he would be in touch as soon as possible, when i was Actually trying to order one.

At least that Gave me more time to start reading up on the specs and realise it wasnt worth chasing after all. At the time i thought it would be an issue having to deal direct with the manufacturer, but its not the case

Thet seems like a lucky escape having seen many youtube reviews since and realising how much better the ACS is.

The best thing about nurri was that rather funny video a couple of years back!!

Obviously all my opinion but ill be dammed if i have to beg to try to buy a machine!

The guy on the phone suggested supply issues and unknown delivery times which is possibly why i never heard from M.

I can’t comment on either machine/manufacturer or indeed the relevance of the award in this case but speaking as a designer by trade, the Compasso d’Oro is an enormously prestigious design award that goes back decades.

Some of the winners over the years are some of the most influential designers/architects to have lived.

Again though, not commenting on how relevant this might be in terms of espresso machines.

You obviously didn’t have a good experience contacting Bella barista but as someone who has been leeping an eye out for nurri news ln all the forums I have been aware of since i ordered my machine , i have found that the reports by murri owners worldwide of how they have been served by nurri dealers have seemed on the whole positive, and my own experience has reinforced that.
You mentioned about the “many youtube reviews” but there haven’t been that many youtube reviews on either of the hybrid levers actually. However those few that have arisen have been uniformly positive on both nurri and acs machines so I don’t know what u.mean when u implied that youtube reviews have favoured acs machines as being supposedly “much better” than the nurri leva.
Lastly a machine isn’t just a list of specs and features. How it is designed to work is what matters and tbe signkficance of that depends on the user’s preferences. So having more automated timer features doesn’t make a particular machine better objectively than another, as u suggest. Perhaps your mentality favours the approach and workflow of the acs machines - then that’s great and u have ended up with the best machine FOR YOU. As I have ended up with the best machine FOR ME, because the hands on operation of be nurri leva is perfectly what I was looking for and suits what I want from a machine to a T. And that’s great for the market as it means that more choice for more consumers of hybrid levers.

with all respect means you don’t really know what goes on. When I went to Italy I found out all about it.

I’m pretty sure Antonio would have designed it and had someone cad it up for him from sketches and models. This is because he doesn’t use cad systems, to the best of my knowledge.

I was the opposite from you in that I saw rhe workflows of the acs machine and the nurri machine described, and of the two, it was the nurri methodology that appealed to me much more and aligned with how I wanted my coffee experience to be. And my practical experience of the machine has confirmed my initial impression to be true.

So i am glad that we actually agree on this point which is that different machines will suit different people differently!

I don’t know how anyone can know from the materials on the Web as to what ciffee machines that were released that year were rejected from being listed in the competition because I couldn’t find anything along those lines. I gather though that by making it at the end, the nurri machine was adjudged by Italian design professionals as being among the most excellent of all Italian products in terms of design merits that year. I stand to be corrected of course by any design professional in the field with the actual knowledge of how the award competition is run.
