Well and truly p***** everyone off in Tesco today. Downloaded app to get current vouchers . These are not automatically ready to use you have to go another step and link them to your card , why??? 🙄
12 off an 80 quid shop , great 🥳
Paid at till, bill came to £83 ish , perfect I’ve gone over the 80£ threshold. Card scanned , £15 came off, I asked if that included the £12 and she said “yes thats all your discounts”.
Packed up, left till & checked receipt, no 12 discount! The Tesco loyalty card rewards had brought the bill down but had not included my voucher 😱
Karen went to customer services ie the fag and lottery till only to be told that with the rewards the final bill had come under £80.
Furious Karen asked if she/he 😉 could be refunded and then buy it all back with the extra goods to hit the magic £80.
Customer service chap was not happy. Karen asked “could he not just refund from receipt“? Noooooo! that would be far too easy.

He then said with smug satisfaction “you’ll have to unpack everything and I’ll have to rescan it”
“No problem” said Karen😁, I’ll start unpacking.
Long story short I got the £12 off and the reward saving me a whopping £27 quid.
Does anyone else detest the loyalty cards , I feel it’s just data gathering. They can basically glean so much personal info such as age , income, religion and by opting out your penalised with higher prices🤯
On leaving I realised I hadn’t linked the 15% coupon for dog food that I had purchased to my Tesco cards…dare I go back? …To be continued 😂
Also, don’t get me started on those “I’ve got the power”ridiculously annoyingly Tesco adverts that worm into your brain and play on repeat at 2am in the morning. 😤

I hate being ripped off and would have done exactly the same. In fact, I have gone back when something has not been deducted as it should. They make enough profit out of us as it is.

Now, I don’t know about loyalty cards good or bad, but last year we had saved enough points to get 60 quids worth of shopping before spending a penny. Okay, we may have paid that over the odds for our food for the year, but then I guess I could look at it as a savings scheme. We were more than happy not having to fork that out at what is an expensive time of year.

My take on a lot of loyalty cards is this……if you buy something with the card it just about turns out at the expected normal price. Buy the same thing without the card and it is prohibitively expensive creating a fictional discount. Which proved this recently at Sainsbury……without their Rewards card your shopping became 9th from the 10 firms they had checked. The data sharing implications are huge. Sometimes at Sainsbury, if you look for the purple Rewards card prices you can buy some reasonable things and make an alleged saving. I detest their new till system, at my local store anyway. I normally go on the scan it yourself section, not the one where you have a mobile scanner. The system never works if I put the bag on telling it I brought my own. The girl told me not to put the bag on and to bag them at the end…..I refuse of course making them come over and sort it. Then multiple times whilst scanning items in it calls the assistant itself needing intervention. Last week I got to the end of my scan, about 20 items when the whole system went down. They helpfully told me I could move onto one of their cash only tills. I only had a £20 note with me. They completed the checkout using their own method, took me onto a cash only till when I found what had been £19 and a few coppers on the last till was now £21 and a few coppers. The result was I realised that if I bought an extra tin of soup the Rewards card discount would kick in and reduce it back down………all this is just an inconvenience to us customers
