Doubtless there is less mess with a spouted portafilter though it is easy to wipe off any drops of coffee on the machine. However one will have more of a bother about cleaning the spouted portafilter whereas it is so easy to clean the bottomless portafilter. On top of that, one can view the shot flow in all it’s glor or otherwise!
Btw I was curious about how well your 80mm fm grinder has been performing vs other flat burr grinders of similar size burrs that you have experienced. Decent seems to think highly of the fm grinder albeit in diff burr sizes.
