Bravo Tampers
- Edited
@dfk41 - may I ask why you decided to go for one of those? I always thought you preferred the old school tampers and that this sort of thing, in your eyes, never delivered value. Will be interested to know how you get on. 👍
Yeh, i have rhe 54.4 from blue star which is a good snug fit for the ACS baskets which i seem to prefer, so David’s suggestion for the ims basket sounds correct as the 54.4 is a sloppy fit in the IMS.

MediumRoastSteam Of course you can….since I have retired I have not really owned any specialist coffee equipment, other than the Evo. Now that I have bought a grinder that many consider to be up there with them, I have to be prepared to open my eyes a bit to help my coffee go up a level. It is not to say that I am dissapointed with my coffee. of course. If I find it makes no difference, then I will revert and someone will get a bargain

dfk41 - Fair enough.
But I have to remind you of your own advice to another member trying to improve their journey:
dfk41 if you just want to try one out, then go ahead…….I reckon within a short space of time it will gather dust in the cupboard marked CoffeeBollocks

I’m glad you have changed your mind.
I personally like them and I can’t see myself going back to a standard tamper. Despite some of the annoyances (coffee in between plates), it eliminates two variables (level and pressure). Given it costs a fraction of the value of a coffee machine / grinder combo… It’s well worth the money.
Enjoy your new toy!
MediumRoastSteam I think one of the points in my mind, is that this sort of thing becomes part of the process, rather than fixing all known puck prep problems!
dfk41 I can pick up 🤣🤣🤣
And I thought spending nearly 50 quid on a sprung tamper was being extravagant! So what makes this one better than a Normcore or MHW-3 Bomber?

Pompeyexile Absolutely no idea! I am just working on the basis that if I do not get on with it I will be able to move it on for £120. Someone else gets a bargain and I have just ‘rented’ a bit of coffee kit for a couple of weeks. I used to take this approach back in the days when I used to swop equipment on a monthly basis
Look at the price of a force tamper, then come back lol

Thank you David 😎
5 days in now with the Bravo tamper.
As expected, had to side shift from the ACS basket back to the IMS basket.
Bravo feels great in the hand.
Does it make better coffee ? No.
Do the pucks look better when knocked out? No
Has it introduced anything to impact the cup in a negative way? NO.
Will i keep it? Yes i think so, Yes. Feels good and even though no obvious benefit, it does, i feel remove what could be seen as a variable. Its basically, as it’s designed to be, repeatable without requiring a coffee in order to get the brain functioning prior to using!!
So, thank tou for Forcing it on me (oh, no, wrong tamper!!) 🤭
Thank you David for the opportunity (just been watching lord Sugar!!).

I currently have a rather bad shoulder and appreciating the bravo tamper.
Im left handed. Bad left shoulder!!
Never had to do 2 handed tamp before and it just feels wrong trying to do it with my right hand!! You try using the wrong hand ☕

Adrianmsmith I find I’m using the IMS baskets more and the Torr 54.4 is slightly sloppy in there. Thinking about investing in one of these.
How you finding it Adrian? 🙏

Adrianmsmith haven’t compared side by side, but find myself reaching for the IMS basket. You think I should persevere with ACS basket?
nope, ims comp is better
