dfk41 Back on track! I am trying not to make this a love in! Having successfully removed RDT from my workflow
A bit more Info from my current obsession which is RDT.
I do not see a need for WDT in any of its forms from super cheap to hideously expensive!! I did not get the kafatek wdt tool or mr puff. Seller too tight. Buyer dont be so trusting!!
Back to rdt.
I’ve reported when i first go the max i didnt rdt or wdt
but to get zero retention i did have to bellow and thwack.
So the static was low and bellow and thwack was enough to get zero retention . Not a big deal or cause to complain.
Having watched the JH videos ive veen playing with RDT at the higher suggested levels.
I reported earlier i thought the burrs were staying cleaner. I noticed bellow and thwack did not seem to be removing much if anything.
To investigate ive changed habit to help prove it.
Grind as normal. No bellow. No thwacker .
Stop grinder
Zero scales with grind cup on.
Replace and turn grinder on. Bellow and thwack for a while.
Re-weighing has been giving a genuine Zero.
Will need to check next week but im thinking 1 to 2g without rdt.
Either way no loss but not having to bellow and thwack is good.
Also worth note, when checking for retention, Input must be weighed After RDT. Otherwise you will see a gain in the output.
NOW this may be where Davids Conical has an advantage over the Max.
Conical along with a better gravity advantage may clear the burrs better than the flat. Obviously this is where the Philos has an advantage as well.
I’m not trying to convince anyone here to Use RDT im just reporting what im currently observing after watching the videos which are a revelation.
In the past i had never wanted to rdt but the Key needed it and i then saw no negatives.
Negatives reported by various niche zero users about RDT, on facebook groups, i would Suspect they were spraying water not RDT misting!! I never used RDT with the niche and i hadnt seen the videos then.
Using the bellow and thwacker its not NEEDED with the max either except im grinding finer. Hard to say if taste in the cup is better but its also not worse……
