• White Bluetooth scales

Admitedly a niche need, but looking to replace my DiFluid scales now the 3rd set has broken. DiFluid have been good and replaced them so far, and now offering to refund if they can test and prove the intermittent fault but I have had enough and want to change.

I was about to pull the trigger on Acaia Pearl, but have just seen the new Varia AKU Pro / Mini scales that look good. The Pro is same price as the Pearl but with more functions, and better flow rate (number vs icons) and smaller. And the mini as a even smaller and cheaper option as I only do espresso 99% of time looks good too.

Are there any others to think about that come in white and do bluetooth?

I’ve had the white Pearl scales for a while, really like them. Not sure I’d recommend them for espresso extraction as they’re pretty large and may not fit on a drip tray. There’s the Acaia Lunar(or other brands) designed for that.

I don’t really use any of the functionality beyond weighing and timing I just like how robust they feel. My thought process was that I’ve seen them used pretty heavy handedly in a lot of coffee shops for PF weighing so if they stand up to that 100s of times a day they’re probably pretty hardy.

I’ve been looking for a new espresso scale and the Varia has piqued my interest. I had my order for a Lunar cancelled due to stock issues and haven’t yet bothered to order anything so the Varia looks promising. I like the landscape format which makes sense for drip trays.

I have the older pearl scales which don’t have flow control but they’re robust and fairly repairable which appeals to me. The Bluetooth and apps aren’t great though, Acaia have this bad habit of having a different poorly designed app for each day of the week and my experience with 3rd party apps have been hit and miss.

As @HarveyMushman mentions they are pretty bulky too so not the most practical for most espresso machines even if they do technically fit and have a mode for it. Lunar seems to be most suited to espresso but less ideal for pour over.

Those varia scales do look nice with their oled screens but I’m not sure how reliable or easy to replace parts like battery will be. Booku scales seem well reviewed but they only do transparent colours at the moment by the looks of it.

Thanks all. Will give the Varia a go then. The DiFluid been running out of battery every few days and now not charging. Hoping they refund.

Quite surprised to read this about difluid - especially you’re on your third. I’ve got one of the first that came out since November 2022 and it’s been faultless.

Maybe the newer, ‘improved’ models are affected
